We delivered 67 Toys R Us gift cards to Lexington Social Services for our Kids in Need program. It was a bit difficult due to our biggest fundraiser, the tree lighting being on a different day and only raising half of what we usually do there. It was also difficult finding people to volunteer at Sunoco, Ace and Cumberlands, but we did raise enough money. 3.The Valentine Day Lunch will be Thursday February 12th 11:15 - 12:30 at Lexington Senior Center. We will meet at the flag pole in front of LHS at 11:05. We go and serve seniors food and talk to them. It is a very quick and rewarding community service activity. People who can attend are Mark, Avery, Ashley, Janelle, Vanessa, Andrea, Nic, Will, Shaun and Elizabeth. Maybes are Courtney, Ilise and Andrew. Right now for drivers we have Shaun and Vanessa and Deb is willing to drive if she need to. 4.The Cotting School visit will be a Friday in early March. The exact date will be announced at the February meeting and sign ups will occur that night. Cotting is a school for people with mental and physical handicaps. We are usually there for 60-90 minutes to have a meet and greet, work on making birthday boxes with them, and take a few pictures with the students and faculty. It is the most rewarding project we do and it is a lot of fun for both the Cotting kids and LYC members. 5.The Cotting School also has a book business in which the kids learn how to log and sell the books online. We collect books for them at Sunoco and Arlex, so try to spread the word for people to bring their old books to one of those locations. 6.Next we discussed the Patriots Day Float. We have had very successful float the past few years and hope to win once again! As of now, the most popular idea is a dinosaur float, that connects back to LYC not going anywhere and is still serving the community. BRING IDEAS TO THE NEXT MEETING! We usually have two to three “build the thth float” dates that will be selected prior to the weekend of the 17 and 18 of April. The th final touches are done before the parade on Monday the 20. We will need LYC participation for the actual parade to walk with the float and hand out flags. The usual number of attendees is between 15 and 20. 7.Looking ahead we have the rest of the meetings that should already be on everyone’s calendars as well as the Senior Send Off and LYC Island Clean Up on May 7th. The final four meetings will be held at the LHS Commons II, at 7:00 pm until 8:00pm. The dates are February 12, March 12, April 9. Respectfully Submitted, Mark Solomon- Lexington Youth Commission Secretary
