HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-11-06-HDC-min PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Minutes of Thursday, November 6, 2014, Selectman’s Meeting Room, Lexington Town Offices, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue at 7:00PM Commissioners present: Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Daniel Griffin and Robert Warshawer Associate Commissioners: Marilyn Fenollosa, Barbara Feldman, Britta McCarthy and Jon Wardwell Department Clerk: Linda Rainville 1776 Massachusetts Avenue: Paul Marchant, Air Technology, presented plans to install a rooftop air conditioning unit. The unit will be 51 ½” tall and will sit 36’ from the front of the building, 18’ from the side of the building. The gooseneck vent will be removed. The unit will be painted battleship gray. All in favor 40 Hancock Street : Jane Williamson,presented plans to replace the brick stairs with 8 ft. wide granite steps with rock face risers. The orientation will be turned toward the front. A black wrought iron railing will be installed. She also presented plans to paint the barn the same color as the house. All in favor. 975-977 Massachusetts Avenue : David Ardito,presented plans for a 46’ x 49’ “L” shaped parking area with a 6 foot stockade fence on the corner. Hedges are to be planted along Joseph Road to screen the parking area. And plans to install clad replacement windows. After discussion Mr. Ardito withdrew the window replacement request. The plans for the parking area was approved (Lynn opposed), subject to compliance with any zoning requirements for parking areas with four or more spaces. 21 Muzzey Street : Sally Degan, Spacecraft Architecture, presented plans to demolish 2 buildings and construction of a new building. The new building will have clapboard siding, wood windows, fiberglass gutters, The doors facing Raymond St and Muzzey Street will be fiberglass. The door on the side of the building will be steel. The plan was approved (D. Griffin recused, M. Fenollosa opposed). Sally will come back to the next meeting with new design for oval windows, trim detail at first floor “porch” area and lighting. 1620 Massachusetts Avenue: William Hubner, presented plans to replace the present sign at this address with a 12” x 66” sign relocated from his previous business location. The sign will be hung in the same place as the sign it is replacing. All in favor. 57 Forest Street: Ryan Jette, Astrum Solar, presented plans to install 15 solar panels (matt surface with black frame and silver grid) and inverter panel. DC unit will be hidden by existing bushes. All in favor 1875 Massachusetts Avenue : Melisa Tintocalis, presented plans to change the entrance door. After some discussion the request was withdrawn. 1364 Massachusetts Avenue : Jason Aslin, presented plans to demolish the existing 1954 ranch home and construct a new two story colonial. The lot is 15000 square feet. The existing home is 2500 square feet, the proposed new home is 5200 square feet. After some discussion the plan was withdrawn. CONTINUED HEARINGS 881 Massachusetts Avenue: Greg Antonelli spoke to the Commission regarding the questions they had on this project. There will be a green buffer along Curve Street and along the driveway. The new stone wall will have a 12” green buffer. There will be a 3’ picket fence behind the stone wall. There will be a 6’ picket fence along the side of the property. The asphalt play area will have a “step down” to distinguish from the driveway. The 8’ x 16’ shed will be painted to match the house. There will be a new wood patio with lattice screen. Approved (M. Fenollosa abstained) 1775 and 1761 Massachusetts Avenue : Melisa Tintocalis, presented information regarding the proposed “parklet”. Resident David Canter commented that he attended 2 group meetings. His concerns included parking/safety issues, and the cost of construction. Resident Dawn McKenna commented that Group 3 did no support this design. She would like to see something simple. No permanent fixtures or water features. She would like to see this project coordinated with other town projects. Resident David Williams applauded Melisa for pursuing this project. He would also like to see a more simple design. The Commission felt there were too many activities proposed for such a small space. There was no support for the modern canopy and maintenance concerns about the water feature. The item is continued to the next meeting. INFORMAL HEARINGS 18 Belfry Terrace: Francis McCarthy, presented plans to demolish the building that is presently on this property and replace it with a new single family home. The proposed new building will be approximately 5000 square feet. It will have 5 bedrooms, 4 ½ baths, and attic/rec. room on third floor. There was no support from the commission for demolishing the existing house. The commission also felt the proposed house was much too large for the lot.
