HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-12-09-REC-min (Lincoln Park Subcommittee)Lincoln Park Subcommittee Meeting Minutes December 9, 2014 Committee members present: David Williams, Chairman, Brian Kelley, Joanne Shorter, Lynne Wilson, Bob Pressman Others present: Wendy Rudner, Recreation Dept.; John Frey Tree Committee, Christine Burwell Chair Arts Committee Meeting opened at 7:35pm 1.The minutes from 10/27/14 were approved unanimously. 2. Spring Plantings: Parterre, Azalea garden ($23K) and boardwalk ($18K) Motion approved to fund the spring plantings by Parterre 3. Handyman was found since last meeting--Timothy Linn. Fixed boardwalk. Cost of $412.50. manager and others will be speaking. 5. Granite Forest discussion: The granite for the areisff6in the foundation of Milliken home (1856 home). David Williams --N money in Lincoln Park budget for granite forest development. Don't want to dip into endowment to pay for this. Has gotten 2 bids for the project. One at $75K, and second at $60K. These include 12K for trees. Trees -- 16 poplars. John Frey from Trees committee thinks it is possible that the Trees Committee could fund the trees. Discussion about finding funding of the granite forest-- two primary points of discussion were writing grants (for example, in response to Mass. Humanities call for grant applications), and CPA funding. Christine (arts council) really likes the idea of the Granite Forest, connecting past and present. Mass. Humaniti call for Grant applications. Information on Lexington Council of Arts website. CPA funding—Bob Pressman said should submit under parks and recreation. Normal dealing of Nov. 1. If want to go to CPA, next deadline is Nov. 1, 2015. Then to town meeting 2016. Money available July 2016. Only 1 page required Comments made that are thrilled with Tim's work so far. 4. Ceremony in honor of Nell Walker -- on Friday December 12, 2-4pm at DPW Building. Town Other thoughts about the project: because it is on path to field, use 'sport' type inspiration path. Next steps: Set up meeting with Wesley. and include Arts commission. Tentative Date of this meeting: January 6. 7:30pm Arts Council —will put notice on Facebook page . Concept meeting. 6. Other discussion items: David reminded committee about Library book /Ma 1 has mowed meadows. "pats meadow' was mowed by hand. $875K in both funds. This year spent approx.. $45K. Bathroom landscaping was additional. Funds from Lions Club has come in 8:55pm Adjourn meeting.
