HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-11-06-COD-min Commission of Disability Meeting Minutes November 6, 2014 Members Present Victoria Buckley, Chair, Linda Vine, Deputy Town Manger and ADA Coordinator, Joe Pato, Selectmen Liaison, Fred Lonardo, Building Commissioner, Sue Cusack, Michael Martignetti, Len Morse-Fortier, Janet Perry, Francine Stieglitz Guest Maureen St.Hilaire, Member of the Arlington Commission Approval of minutes and clarification of process The June, September, and October minutes were approved Clarification of proposal for bylaw about brick sidewalks We will be working with Norman Cohen to craft a warrant article to stop the use of bricks, cobblestones and bricklike concrete pavers for new or reconstructed public walkways, to ensure safe passage for citizens who have trouble traversing uneven surfaces Reaction of Selectmen about goal-setting letter There is nothing to report at this time, but our efforts to discuss the use of brick in Lexington presents another opportunity Update about Harrington Park, 394 Lowell Street, Lexington At their annual board meeting in May, they will discuss the need for a long-range plan to address the lack of accessibility in the building We will be requesting written outcome of this meeting by June 1, 2015 Update on meeting with Commissions at Minuteman Senior Services Minuteman Senior Services called a meeting to share information with the Commissions in the eight towns that they serve Victoria and Julie attended on our behalf Their services are generally federally funded and oriented to seniors and individuals with disabilities There was general consensus that more support needed to be afforded to individuals with psychiatric disabilities Invitation to assist in planning the ADA's 25th Anniversary Celebration on 7/22/15 on Boston Common Minuteman Senior Service wants to know if anyone would like to be on their panning committee No one volunteered but we are discussing the possibility of our own event on Discovery Day in May Update on meeting with Hanscom Area Towns Committee on 10/23 Concord, Lincoln, Lexington, and Bedford met to discuss the work of Commission on Disability Concord and Bedford do not currently have a commission, and were interested in learning more about the advantages of forming a commission After hearing from Victoria they appear to be interested in moving forward to establish a commission in their communities 1 Additional new business and update on new projects Update from the Grain Mill Alley Public Workshops Sue Cusack attended the public meeting in October and offered suggestions on the two revised proposals that were submitted ADA Audit Update Clarke School Elevator will be replaced probably next summer Fred Lonardo gave us new business for next month - 271 Lincoln Street would like to present, the Old Higgins Office They would like to put in a dental office They would like to present their short and long term plans to put in a dental office Cary Hall Sidewalk Discussion Meeting November 17 at 7pm at the Selectman's Meeting Bill Hadley will discuss the decision on sidewalk materials in from of Cary Hall 2
