Grain Mill Alley Workshops: Although Melisa Tintocalis was unable to attend this meeting, members discussed their reaction to the current proposals. A member remarked that the designs “occlude traffic to and from the Bikeway,” another remarked that the proposals include amenities in the alley that would “be a nightmare to get through.” Another member said that the landing area would need copious bike parking. John Frey mentioned that Clinton has an interesting water treatment in a similar area. Minuteman Bikeway Signage Update : Bob Dangel reported that he had met with Steve Smith and Chris Tonkin to discuss details regarding content, style, and location of certain Bikeway signage. TSAC Meeting: Carolyn Levi said that, at the last TSAC meeting, members discussed development of an online accident report form and bike safety education for students (Carolyn reported that Mary Ellen Dunn said that she and the superintendent of schools support the idea of a bike safety education program; however, they cannot fund the program but will assist LBAC in distributing literature to schoolchildren. The TSAC police representative also indicated support.) Carolyn reported that TSAC also discussed the recent accident on the Bikeway between an 11 year old cyclist and a walker who fell and broke his ribs as well as the need for but lack of police presence on the Bikeway. Tri-Town Meeting Agenda : A number of members will attend. The agenda includes nighttime use of the Bikeway, winter planning, and Bikeway signage. Proposed Changes on Hartwell Avenue (update): Nothing to report. John Livsey has not yet set a meeting for committee members to meet with him. Upcoming Quarterly Transportation Forum : Peggy will present the League of American Bicyclist recommendations for Lexington as well as their “report card.” Also on the agenda is a discussion of complete streets and upcoming paving plans. Laurel remarked that Waltham has now adopted a Complete Streets policy. Other business: Bob Dangel remarked that the Bikeway from Hartwell to Westview is in dire need of paving. The committee agreed that the greatest hazard at the present time is the depression at the Tophet Swamp bridge. Peggy promised to contact the DPW to ask that this be repaired asap.Bob Dangel remarked that the Season’s Four intersection is a low spot and thereby collects water and ice in the winter. This intersection should be raised when it’s paved. A member remarked that the bike lane on Hayden Avenue ends badly; it needs to be rounded off and not just stop short. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm. Record of the Discussions of the Friends of Lexington Bikeways 1. Treasurer's Report: FoLB received a $200 donation from Sisterhood of Temple Isaiah. 2. Fundraising plans for Plowing 2014-15: FoLB plans once again to erect 10 signs seeking donations; an additional small sign will be prepared to inform users how to report dangerous conditions. A solicitation should go to the various lists (including those who signed in at the bike corrals), and letters should be put in the Minuteman reminding residents that the town doesn’t pay for plowing. 3. LAB Smart Cycle Quick Guides: Bob purchased 50 of these, which will be sold for cost ($1) at the Farmer’s Market.
