Business Thechairdeclaredthataquorumwaspresent. ApprovaloftheminutesofApril30andMay7willbedeferreduntilthenextmeeting. MembershipUpdate CommitteeCoViceChairDickCroganhasretiredfromthecommitteeduetohealthreasons.Dickhas assuredthecommitteethathewillstayinvolvedandhelpoutwherepossible,especiallyonthe5«º«¸§´¹ȟ Dayactivities.SuziehasaskedRichMcDonough,amemberofthesubcommitteeandaU.S.AirForce veteran,tooccupy#¯©±ȟ¹placeonthefullcommittee.HisappointmentshouldbeeffectiveasofJune2 whentheselectmennextmeet.ThethreeyeartermsofmembersBobTracey,SondraLucenteandJulie MillerwillexpireonJune30andSuzieaskedthemtoexpresstheirwishesaboutremainingforanother termbythattime.Also,shewillinformallmembersofthesubcommitteethattheironeyeartermsare settoexpireandaskfortheirintentions. PatriotsDay2014OutstandingIssues Bannerissue:Suziespokewiththesponsorwhosebannerteamwasmarchingoutofplaceintheparade. Thesponsorhadnoissuesanddidnotwantarefundofhisdonation. 4RegimentofFoot:thedecisionofthegroupwasthatthisunitwasneverproperlyregistered;therefore, th theunitisnoteligibletoreceiveanypaymentfromtheCelebrationsCommittee.Suziewillrelaythis informationtotheorganization. 2«²«©º³«´ȟ¹GoalSetting:Uponinvitation,thecommitteeaddedtwoitemstothegoalsettinglisttobe reviewedatanupcoming¹«²«©º³«´ȟ¹meeting:1)thepurchaseof15radiosforgeneraltownuseaswell asforCelebrationsCommitteeuseand2)asafe,secureanddedicatedreviewingstandvs.theunsafeone currentlyborrowedfromthecityofWaltham. MemorialDay2014 Water:SuziewillarrangetohavebottlesofwaterontheGreen PeterKelleywillprovidehiscarforuseoftheGrandMarshalandwillalsoactasdriver. SamDoranwillarrangefortwoeaselsandpostersmarkingthegravesoftwoCivilWarveterans killedin18564,the150anniversaryofthewar.Hewillrefertothesegravesinhisspeechin th MuzzeyCemetery. Suzietracedtheparaderouteandschedule,endingwiththeorderofeventsfortheceremonyon theBattleGreen. RichMcDonoughwillreadthescriptsateachmemorialsite.Waynewillassistbycarryingthe portableaudioequipment. VeteransDay2014 The VeteransBreakfast isconfirmedforSaturday,November8.Twostrongpossibilitiesforguest speakerareMGL.ScottRice,AdjutantGeneral,MassachusettsArmyNationalGuard,orBG WilliamColeoftheU.S.ArmySoldierCenterinNatick. EssayContest:BarbaraManfredireportedthatMaryBarry,headofSocialStudiesforLexington schools,willputthetopicofaVeteransDayȠ¶¸µ°«©ºȡontheagendaathernextmeetingwithall Lexingtonsocialstudiesteachers.Whethertheprojecttakestheformofanessayorsomething else,theteacherswillstrivetofindsomethingallstudentscanparticipatein,somethingthat wouldmotivatemiddleschoolandhighschoolstudentstoattendtheCelebrationsCommittee VeteransDayservice,perhapsasaresultofsomethingaccomplishedorearned.Thecommittee discussedanumberofideas,including1)creatingawallwherestudentscouldpostthename andphotoofafamilymemberwhoservedinthemilitary;and2)returningtoaformertradition ofinvitingveteransintotheclassroomtotelltheirstories. MiddleSchoolBandPerformance:Suziewillaskthemiddleschoolmusicand/orchoralgroupsto performatthisceremony. DanceAroundtheWorld TheDanceAroundtheWorldcommitteehasmettwiceandsetthedateforMarch14,2015at LexingtonHighSchool.Thesamegroupswhoappearedinthisconcertheldduringthe300 th celebrationwillbeinvited,aswellassomenewgroups.Thiseventwasoneofthemostpopular andsuccessfulofthe300events. th TheSelectmendefinitelywantedtoretainthisprogramandauthorizeda$5,000budgetforit. Acoregroupofworkersfromtheoriginalprogramarenowworkingonthe2015program. OtherBusiness ThegroupagreedtosuspendmeetingsduringJune,JulyandAugustandtoresumemeetingsin September.
