HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-03-26-COA-min Town of Lexington Council on Aging Age-Friendly Sub-Committee Meeting March 26, 2021 3:00-4:OOPM Zoom Video Conference Present: Betty Borghesani, Julie Ann Shapiro,John Zhao, Sudhir Jain, Sandra Shaw, Staff: Hemali Shah, Melissa Interess Julie Ann Shapiro called the meeting to order at 3PM and read Governor Baker's instructions on public meetings via Zoom. Public Comments: No public present Senior Parking Sticker Program (SPSP) Proposal Review In an effort to understand concerns, questions, and support from others in Lexington regarding offering a SPSP to Lexington seniors we have reached out to key town groups and officials, including: members of the Select Board, Police Chief Corr, members of the Parking Management Group and Center Committee. During these meeting both support for the program and concerns were raised by various townspeople. The FCOA is enthusiastic about the program, will write a letter of support. Police Chief Corr sees no administrative issues in management or enforcement of the program and has agreed to write such a letter. Concerns raised by some members of the PMG and Lexington Center Committee included: A lack of need demonstrated for the program The SPSP will have a negative effect on the existing Parking Management Program There is no way to enforce the time limit Age 65 is too young Permit should not be distributed to every resident at age 65 If the SPSP does not work as planned, it will be difficult to rescind Next Steps Julie will put together a memo addressing the concerns discussed. Members of the committee will send any suggestions to her. Julie and Betty will discuss next steps with SB liaison Susie Barry Senior Parking Program draft will be reviewed for approval by COA at April meeting Meeting adjourned at 4 PM Submitted by Betty Borghesani
