Estabrook Hall, Cary Hall Building 1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA Board of Health Members in Attendance: Burt Perlmutter, MD, John J. Flynn, J.D., Sharon MacKenzie R.N., CCM, David S. Geller, M.D Health Division Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Health Director, Linda Rainville, Clerk 1.) Minutes of May 21, 2014 – Approved with one correction. 2.) Community Health a.) CHNA grant update – Mr. Cody reviewed the Community Health Report with the Board. He informed the Board about Rick Abrams death. b.) MAPC Smoke free housing grant update – Mr. Cody reported that the Smoke Free Housing plans were moving along nicely. He reviewed the schedule of meetings being held for the residents. Assessments will be done quarterly. There also will be cessation opportunities offered. 3.) Lisa Coen presented her thesis regarding food establishment inspections. 4.) Environmental Health a.) Food Inspection program 1.) Royal India Bistro – No One Appeared from Royal India Bistro. Mr. Cody explained to the Board that he met with Jatinder regarding the violations at his restaurant. Jatinder said there is a language barrier with his employees. The owner is aware of the repercussions of continuing to have violations. Mr. Cody reviewed a letter that was sent to Royal India Bistro regarding the Order to Comply. 2.) Yangtze River - Ms. McKenzie asked for a copy of the cleaning schedule. b.) State Sanitary Code Case Review 1.) 26 Volunteer Way 2.) Abandoned Properties program update 3.) Rodent Letter – North Street - Mr. Cody told the Board that a letter was sent to 18 residents near North Street regarding the complaint of a rat being seen in the area 4.) 12 Hayes Avenue – chickens – Mr. Cody shared a letter sent to the residents of 12 Hayes Avenue, they are now in compliance. 5.) 192 Sprint Street – Septic 6.) 27 Burlington Street – cesspool - Mr. Cody shared a letter sent to the owners regarding the building code for additions on houses with Septic/Cesspool c.) Medical Marijuana update 1.) Ethan Handwerker – Mr. Handwerker spoke to the BOH regarding some of the state regulations on Medical Marijuana. Mr. Handwerker has been in contact with the Mass Dept. of Public Health. He is concerned about the regulations regarding MIPs. He asked the BOH to include an MIP practice in the BOH regulations. Mr. Handwerker also discussed, home hardships, seed importation. How does one get a permit? He has not gotten a response from MDPH. d.) Tobacco Regulations update e.) Annual Swimming Pool Life Guard Variance request Avalon at Lexington Hills Avalon at Lexington Ridge Element Pool at Paramount Hotel Peacock Farm Pool Variance requests were approved. f.) Old Reservoir Bathing Beach update – Mr. Cody reviewed the 2014 policy. There needs to be 2 bad test results before closing the beach. 5.) Emergency Preparedness a.) As a result of the new Health Medical Coordinating Coalition, HMCC), Mr. Cody told the Board that the goal is to have local public health to work more closely with local hospitals during emergencies. Miscellaneous 6.) Old Business / New Business The Health Department is working with the Conservation Department to get information regarding Ticks out to the public. Tick information has also been distributed to the Library and the Visitor Center. 7) Next Meeting Wednesday, July 16, 2014
