PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE
HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
Minutes of Thursday, July 10, 2014, Cafeteria, DPW, 201 Bedford Street at 7:00PM
Commissioners present: Lynn Hopkins, and Robert Warshawer

1351 Massachusetts Avenue
: Adina Fuller, BFE Architects, presented plans to take down the chimney,
deck and patio area in the back of the house. A new screen porch, replace deck and patio and stone wall
will be constructed. The house will be repainted to match existing color. The roofing will match the
existing roof. The shed will be replaced. And the swing set will be removed. Lisa Getspa (?) spoke about
the landscaping. A new stack stone wall will be built matching the existing wall. A 350 square foot patio
will be constructed. The grill set will be built into the counter.

: Henry Liu,shared plans to replace the storage shed. The new shed will be wood
clapboard sided shed with black roofing shingles. It will be painted to match the house. The door will be
on the left side. The windows are windows and a fiberglass door all painted to match the house.

13 Bedford Street
: Colin Smith,and Matt Thenen spoke to the Commission regarding plans for
renovations to the house. Paint colors will be: Benjamin Moore Dorset Gold HC8, Windham Cream
HC6, and Black Forest Green. Replace the small screened porch with a mud room with a master bath
over. Brick walkway will remain, driveway will be reclaimed granite. Windows will be wood 2 over 2
(J&C Adams). A Gooseneck-barn light will be used. Treated shingles will be used on the roof. Add a
detached one car garage.
Approve – upgrade as presented except for the screen porch area.
Three in favor/2 opposed
Asked to come back with a rework of the screen porch and modification of garage door.

: Paul Menz, presented plans to remove a door at the back of the building
and block the area up with original brick from the building. Also replace the wood gutter with a copper
gutter to enable him to safely remove ice buildup. He also would remove some of the Yews near the
sidewalk and install a fence. The fence will be a flat-top fence with flat rails (no spikes). He will be
repairing sills. He will relocate wood door, repair in-kind some existing windows. Paint existing white
gloss. Mr. Menz will return to HDC with final drawings.

: Todd Mellor, O’lyn Roofing, spoke to the Commission regarding re-
roofing two buildings. The roofing materials will match existing materials

: Kevin Kristofeld, Solar Consultant, presented plans to install solar panels on the house.
Two plans were presented; Plan A to install solar panels on front part of the house roof; Plan B to install
the solar panels on the back of the roof. The Commission approve Plan B

: Henry Bratcher, Astrum Solar, presented plans to install solar panels. The
Commission asked him to come back with more detailed plans.

1912 Massachusetts Avenue:
Wendell Kalsow, returned to the Commission to present the replacement
windows to be installed. The Commission approved the replacement with cottage style windows 8 over
12.

INFORMAL HEARINGS
11 Bloomfield Road
: John Sterman and David Foley presented plans to renovate the house. They will
conform the house from Dutch Colonial to Colonial (Revival Style). Some of the changes include, new
roof, solar panels, new door, and replacement windows. They will come back for a formal hearing in
August.
905 Massachusetts Avenue
: Carl Oldenburg,presented plans for minor alterations to the home of
Michael and Cheryl Kraley. Some of the changes include changing the entryway on the side of the house
to include a mudroom, changing the entranceway to the accessory apartment, and changing the garage
windows. They will also add a third car garage. They will come back for a formal hearing in August.
