Treasurer’s report – Diana South Diana reports that there was no activity that impacted our accounts. Our current local account balance (funds that revolve and are used at our discretion): $3,059.84. Chairperson report - Cristina Burwell 2013 Grant updates: Cristina emailed contact for Lexington Symphony and noted that we are following MCC rules and unable to reimburse for expenses submitted after the year has expired. 2014 Grant updates: No updates. Community Center updates: a.Questions about art/furnishings policy Will work be insured? Will art be on loan? Will it be “given”? Art room will have wall space available – is that for display of work that has been created through CC programs? Can some part of walls be WORKING WALLS? Example: tack board for quilters and/or rug walls to hold up Velcro (See Parsons Gallery – at Lex. Arts and Crafts Society) Nice to have other wall space for artists to use to lay out larger projects! Hallway gallery outside art room? First floor – display cases to protect additional work Ground floor – different spaces for children & community engagement Walls should be treated in a way that maximizes display of art What is usage for walls? What needs do you have? Bulletin boards, art, student display work, CC programs o 1 Lexington Council for the Arts Approved Meeting Minutes – May 12, 2014 at Town Offices Building – Parker Room b.Questions about sub-committee of outside community members who have excellence in that area, including LCA Stakeholders “Experts” vs. “Connectors” Juried shows Assistance to find items to borrow Advice on items that might be purchased Are you thinking of 3 shows a year, 4 months each? Or 4 shows? Or one or two shows for first year? Who is point person for CC? Staff person? Volunteer? c.Gallery space for arts – unmet need in Lexington Dining room? Hall outside? Could we use Commander’s room? 1 or 2 shows a year -Might help for work that is fancier or more delicate – but could put one sample on first floor, saying “Exhibition continues on Second Level” to create flow of traffic -Uses smaller wall space (but keeps work safe) We could see art in the hall outside art room that ties more closely to programming – example, a preview of someone’s work if that artist was going to come in and lead a workshop -- or, sample work from artist in residence… Ideal to tie hall work to an Artist-in-residency program 3 ? per year CC offers art workshop station / space CC offers an area where artist LEAVES supplies (artist can’t be required to transport things back & forth!) CC offers display space for finished work, works-in-progress Artist offers workshop, talk, something interactive and shows work Maybe LCA can coordinate grant or stipend to help with supplies? Old business – LOS review: Cristina sent information to Judith Cooper regarding reimbursement for reception. Zoe is following up and will send information to Cristina. Check for $300.00 contribution will be made out from LCA to Lexington Open Studios. Signs were very good to draw new people in.Rain appeared helpful to some locations, especially group showings. Some people see items, and return to purchase. Munroe was busy too. April helps – but not easy to be with school vacation. Patriots’ Day Parade Review: Matthew Pronchick, Lynne Klemmer, Cristina Burwell, Becky Sue Epstein, all joined in the contingent. 250 trading cards were given out and volunteers think that more could have been given out. Nice to have larger image files for higher quality photos. Best practice is to add photo credit (some people forward photos without information). We should ask for the photo credit information. 2 Lexington Council for the Arts Approved Meeting Minutes – May 12, 2014 at Town Offices Building – Parker Room Emily will store the long poles until next year. Start Mardi Gras puppet early – perhaps February - and be prepared for wind. Outstanding Action Items: Jean Hart submitted LOS reception item but it did not yet get printed. Cristina will send as letter to the editor. New business – Discovery Day – Not doing a table this year. May 23 from 10:00 – 3:00 p.m. Dimmock Award: Elsa Lou Dimmock was a vocalist and her family established a special fund in her memory. A high School junior receives the award annually. LCA is conduit to assist in granting the award. Interest comes from the trust fund and is used as an award. Award is about $250.00 and interest has been about $200.00. Could skip a year and re-invest to build up interest. Jeff Leonard preferred to keep annual award. Junior receives the award. This year can reach up to the $250.00. Contact is David Williams who serves as the trustee for Lexington trusts. Need to get name from Jeff Leonard, then coordinate with David Williams to have the check in time. Side note: Lincoln Park Sculpture Park Concept: Zoe shared that at an earlier date she learned that David Williams was involved with others who were trying to establish a small sculpture park. Lincoln Park has a small area set aside. Town identified some granite (from near Buckman Tavern) and considered turning them on side to “plant” in interesting fashion. David Williams approached LCA to discuss possible funding for park. Fundraising: Sub-committee would be helpful. Longer discussion Mon. June 9, 2014 Congratulations: A selection of Zoe’s photographs have been included in a show on the Rose Kennedy Greenway! Congratulations Zoe! Emily Passman was invited to Pecha Kucha (“Chit Chat” in Japanese) Night in Kennebunc, Maine. and did “How I See It”. Like Mini Ted Talk – six minutes.
