HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-04-22-SLC-min Town of Lexington Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of Meeting of April 22, 2014 A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on April 22, 2014 at Cary Hall. A quorum of four was present. Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair Rick Abrams, Rick Reibstein Todd Rhodes, Sheryl Rosner Members Absent: Dan Voss Other Attendees: Joe Pato The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. Solarize Lexington (M. Sandeen) To date: 32 homes in Lexington and Bedford have signed up for solar installation for a o total of 209kW. As a result, everyone will get the lowest price. o On May 3, from 1 to 3pm there will be a “Solarize Installation Party” on Baskin Road. The Solarize Team will also be signing residents up at Hazardous Waste Day and Discovery Day. Discovery Day (M. Sandeen) The committee plans to be grouped with Solarize Lexington and Lex Farm in a line of tables. We will plan to invite Next Step Living to join us in a 10 x 20 space. Ideas for information to present at our table included: Current Situation: IPCC report information and other climate effects o Town Actions: Solarize Lexington, Solar Energy Task Force, Community o Aggregation Your Actions: Home Energy Assessments (HEAs), etc. o Solar Task Force (M. Sandeen) The selected vender is Ameresco. Plans will be discussed at the May 19 Board of Selectmen’s meeting. Recommendations to Selectmen (M. Sandeen) The Selectmen will be holding a planning meeting in June and are looking for input from the committees on priorities for the coming year: The Selectmen will focus on goals o The Town Manager will focus more on the “how to”. o M. Sandeen requested that members send suggested language to him to be summarized. Page 1 of 2 Community Choice Aggregation (M. Sandeen) M. Sandeen met with J. Pato, D. Mauger, P. Chernak, to discuss Community Choice Aggregation and how best to pursue this opportunity for Lexington. A task force including M. Sandeen, P. Chernak, and H. Mans will be established to investigate the opportunity further. Better Buildings Task Force (M. Sandeen) M. Sandeen met with J. Himmel to write a charge for higher standards than LEED Silver. A key concern is how to create a process where the Energy Committee and the SLC can provide input regarding energy efficiency at the right stage for consideration by the Permanent Buildings Committee.
