PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE
HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
Minutes of Thursday, March 6, 2014, Selectmen Meeting Room, Town Hall Building at 7:00PM

FORMAL HEARINGS
40 Hancock Street:
Jane Williamson presented the colors they are intending to paint their home. The
body of the house will be Charcoal Slate #86, Shutters; Black #80, Trim; Brilliant White # PM4, Door;
Heritage Red #25. They will put house numbers (black) on the outer gate posts. They will come back in
the near future with plans for the barn.

1709 Massachusetts Avenue:
Peter Darlow presented plans for the door changes and signage. The
original door is a pair of double doors to be replaced with a mahogany 3/4 door with a side-light. New
hardware and mail- slot. The Menu Board will be replaced in-kind. He also presented the plans for
signage for Beijing Chinese Dining. The signs will be places on the Mass Ave side and the Edison Way
side of the building. The letters will be ½” thick brushed brass. Letters will be individual pin mounted
onto wall with lighting above the sign. The sign on the back of the building will be replaced to match.
The Blade sign will be a solid surface, with no internal illumination. It will be ¾” thick PVC with
burgundy color aluminum panel, ½” thick white PVC lettering.

1776 Massachusetts Avenue:
Leonard Tunik presented plans for signage. The blade sign will be a blue
(matching the business card) and black hung on a wrought iron bracket, placed to the left of the door in
alignment with the sign above the door. The building sign will be individual bronze lettering without the
symbol, non-illuminated sign, placed above the door (where the 1776 is now). Address numbers (1776)
to be placed in the alcove, above the mail box.

1656 Massachusetts Avenue:
No one appeared. The lift will be a replacement in kind

927 Massachusetts Avenue:
Carl Oldenburg appeared to present minor design changes in the original
plan. He will add shutters to three windows in the garage area, a black railing to the front stairs. He
discussed the exterior paint colors and materials.He will bring in exterior lighting fixture samples.

INFORMAL HEARINGS
Sustainable Lexington:
Mark Sandeen, Chairperson, spoke to the Commission about developing a
Climate Action Plan. Better Buildings Program goal to improve the emissions from buildings by 20% by
2020. Approximately 900 homes in Lexington have had some sort of an energy assessment, 1800
updated furnaces to high efficiency systems. Would it be to put together a document to help residents to
provide guidelines for appropriate renovations that will reduce emissions, energy costs, etc. Ms.
Fenollosa spoke about Preservation Green Lab. (Preservation Nation.org) which has done guidelines for
preservation of historical homes.
OTHER BUSINESS
21 Muzzey Street:
Mr. Welch shared a letter received from David Kelland regarding 21 Muzzey Street.
