Description:
This committee’s primary charge will be to recommend to the Board of Selectmen the
facility requirements needed to support the Town’s Public Works and Senior Center activities and
services. The Committee will not only reevaluate the program requirements and space needs developed
to date, but also reevaluate the underlying goals, services, concepts, and facts that support the proposed
program requirements. For Public Works and for the Senior Center, the Committee’s report will describe
and recommend:
Program requirements, including space needs and site requirements
Estimates of probable construction and project costs
Projected incremental changes in staffing and annual operating revenues and expense budgets
resulting from the proposed program requirements
In collaboration with Town staff, the Committee will also gather information and report to the Board of
Selectmen and Town Meeting on the following issues:
Implications to the Town of private development at Hartwell Avenue (both positive and negative);
Historical significance of the trolley barn at 201 Bedford Street and its impact on development;
Subsurface environmental conditions at 201 Bedford Street and the costs of remediation for different
types of uses;
Traffic counts and studies in the vicinity of both 201 Bedford Street and the Hartwell Avenue site.
The committee will report to the Board of Selectmen by March 1, 2004, and present a report of its
findings to the 2004 Town Meeting. After the Advisory Committee has presented its report, the Board of
Selectmen will determine how best to invite further public discussion and citizen input.
