Description:
The Board of Selectmen’s Legal Services Review Committee – II will review the
Town’s legal activities and needs; evaluate common models for provision of these services,
ranging from in-house staff counsel to specialty law firms; and present to the Board an initial
report outlining the advantages of each model for the provision of legal services to conduct and
manage the Town’s legal efforts.
Once the Board determines the model that best suits Lexington’s needs, the Committee will
identify at least three and no more than six firms or attorneys doing significant work in the
municipal law field, compare the depth and breadth of their capabilities, provide the Board with
a report on their findings, and recommend to the Board of Selectmen selection and evaluation
criteria that could be used in a Request for Qualifications (RFQ).
If proceeding with a request for qualifications for legal services is determined by the Board to be
in the Town’s best interests, the Committee will draft a RFQ, solicit responses, and review
proposals. The full Board of Selectmen will interview selected qualifying firms and make a final
determination regarding the selection of a Town Counsel.
Criteria for Membership:
Lexington residents experienced in civic affairs, Selectmen and
School Committee matters, and the legal profession.
