Present: Judy Crocker, Bettina McGimsey, Francine Stieglitz; Liaisons present: Elaine Celi
Judy Crocker called the meeting of the Sidewalk Committee (SWC) to order at 9:10 AM.
1.Correspondence Log: Francine Stieglitz reported that the SWC had received an email from Tracy Herbert
requesting that Clarke reform a Safe Routes Committee. Ms. Herbert asked for the original parent survey
that was done in 2004-2005. Ms. Crocker will send her the survey that was completed in 2011.
2.Minutes from February 3 meeting: Given that there was not a quorum, the minutes were reviewed and
amended, but not voted upon.
3.Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and Ad hoc School Transportation and Safety Study Committee (STS): Ms.
Crocker reported that the concept of whether the Safe Routes coordinator should be a volunteer or a
member of school administration has been presented to a number of stakeholder groups, including the
Safe Routes representatives from each school, the PTA/PTO Presidents Council, and the Sidewalk
Committee. On Friday 2/28/14 it is expected that this concept will also be presented to the
Transportation Forum.
Mary Ellen Dunne has sent the transportation survey out to parents. The information needs to be
compiled by the end of March. Policy readings will be done at School Committee in April.
Bus registration will open on April 7 and end on May 16. Fees will remain at $300 with a family cap of
$750, rising to $500 on May 17. As of July 1 , the full fee of $745/student will be charged. Payment is
not required at registration but is due by 8/1/14. It is possible to cancel registration if needed.
4.New business: As of 2/22/14, the Community Endowment of Lexington has put out a Request for
Proposals for grants of up to $10,000 to qualifying organizations.
5.Updating Resident Guidelines for Requesting New Sidewalks document: The group reviewed the
guidelines and suggested changes which will be incorporated into the document.
6.The meeting was adjourned at 10 AM. The next meeting of the Sidewalk Committee will be April 7 at 9
AM in the SMR.
Respectfully submitted by,
Bettina McGimsey
