LINCOLN PARK SUB- COMMITTEE Minutes — March 25, 2014 Committee present — David Williams, Chairman, Nell Walker, Bob Pressman, Joanne Shorter, Brian Kelley, Cindy Kuechle Others present — Vanessa Tropeano and Miles Connors, Parterre, Wesley Wirth, Landscape Architect Update — Miles reported that Parterre had done some volunteer pruning on Friday, March 21. 45 hours of pruning was done next to the parking area. Nell commented that the boardwalk pruning has been too severe and ferns have been cut down. Vanessa will talk to Bob Barnard to make sure that this does not happen again. She said that Bob could not attend the meeting but she had an estimate for him for 2014. Bathrooms — Brian told the group that the bathrooms would open soon. They are complete and any problems will surface when they are opened. Landscaping is on hold due to the weather. The plaque has been ordered. To date he has no outstanding bills. However, irrigation and landscaping is still to be done and there is approximately $3,000 left in the fund. Wes Wirth, Bob Barnard and Chris Filadora still need to agree on the plan provided by Wes. The date for the formal opening has not been decided. Vanessa reported on the condition of the park after the winter. The boardwalk has a frost heave near the crabapples. Brian will check this out. She also said that something, possibly voles, had eaten the oakleaf hydrangeas. They may or may not regenerate. The viburnum was also eaten perhaps by deer. Otherwise, the park looks good. Miles explained that the meadow had been mowed twice last year and recommended mowing only once to avoid the ground nesting birds. David asked Vanessa about plans for this year. She said that Jim from Parterre will be working every other Wednesday. There will be one person from Parterre and three from Bob Barnard. Miles is also there for the first half hour. Nell asked about invasives. Miles will deal with this on an ongoing basis. There was discussion about the lack of irrigation during the very dry period last year. There may be a need for more soaker hoses. It is still too early for the irrigation to be turned on. Miles and Vanessa presented an estimated maintenance budget for 2014. Signage -- Wesley brought the new signs. Brian will install them with Wesley's help. Wesley said that the stone drainage area is in need of help and could perhaps be a Boy Scout project. Bob Barnard has still not given an estimate for widening the path along Worthen Road. Wesley will provide suggestions for planting at the next meeting. Granite Forest -- Miles will follow up with Jed Talbot from Maine to get another estimate. The minutes from January 7 were accepted as written. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.
