Minutes:
1.The October 10, 2013 Minutes were unanimously approved.
Student Recruitment:
2.Reported by Mr. Levison:
Ms. Tringale (LHS coordinator for student community service activities)
notified Mr. Levison that the TAC Student Representative was accepted as
suitable for community service hours. Community service hours are to be
awarded to a student based on his/her time providing a service. Time spent in
meetings is generally not counted. TAC will plan to identify a project for the
student volunteer (e.g. updating Lexpress on Google Transportation;
surveying other HS students on the value of GPS monitoring of bus arrival
times)
Mr. Boudett provided a flyer for advertising the position to potential student
volunteers. Ms. Tringale indicated that the flyer would be posted.
Senior Transportation Working Luncheon
3.
Ms. Rebecchi organized the luncheon in order to have an exchange of ideas between
different Lexington organizations involved in senior transportation. The luncheon was
th
held on October 30 and was attended by members of TAC, FISH, COA, and town staff.
Potential follow-up areas include:
Education (awareness of available transportation and how to access it)
Peer-to-peer outreach
Travel training
Additional information about the MBTA
Arranging for the T to set up a time to distribute Senior passes in a location
that is in or near Lexington
Local taxi service \[Presently no local taxi operator. Lexconnect service is
provided by Veteran’s Taxi from Waltham. Some interest from Veteran’s in
establishing local service in Lexington. Permitting and taxi stand would need
to be provided.\] ---- Mr. Levy to find out about permitting from Town
officials.
Lexpress Route Changes
4.
Ms. Rebecchi developed four alternate route maps for the Lexpress service. The primary
objectives of the new routes were to provide service to the new Community Center and to
reduce total time of each pair of routes (1&2, 3&4, 5&6) to 50 minutes or less.
The 4 options were reviewed and discussed. A preferred route was not chosen; additional
discussion and options were suggested. Follow-up could include:
Revise proposed route maps with arrows and Route Numbers to make easier to
follow
Consider how buses could be deployed differently in mid-day when there are few
student riders to better serve other demographics and increase ridership
Ridership information will be developed to show Lexpress use by Route,
o
time, and demographic for an interval that includes the effects of Flexpass
and free off-peak senior rides.
Consider options for changing routes if additional vehicles (another bus, a mini-
bus, or van) are added in order to provide better service to the new Community
Center
Communication with Community Center Advisory Committee
5.
The committee had a brief discussion about exchanging information with the Community
Center Advisory Committee (CCAC) in order to present our approach to the committee
and to better understand to Community Center transportation needs (based on
programming that is being planned).
TAC discussed the possibility of routing the after-school buses from the Elementary and
Middle Schools directly to the Community Center. Ms Dratch agreed to bring this up for
discussion at the next School Safety and Transportation Committee Meeting.
Mr. Levison is to contact Michelle Ciccolo to discuss meeting first with her and then with
the CCAC.
