HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-02-24-GCC-min Greenways Corridor Committee February 24, 2014 Legion Room, Cary Hall Lexington, Massachusetts Members Present: Rick Abrams, Alex Dohan, Eileen Entin, Bob Hausslein, Keith Ohmart, Mike Tabaczynski, Other Attendees: Stew Kennedy, Conservation Commission liaison Votesapproved : January 27, 2014, meeting Minutes - Motion for GCC to back Rick’s Community Endowment of Lexington proposal - approved • ACROSS Lexington Trust Fund update: An honorarium as approved by the trust fund trustees will be given to David Neal, the app designer, and another honorarium for the map designer • Spring walks: on Routes A, B, and maybe C Rick is working with the Recreation Department on 4 walks - not necessarily ACROSS routes, but may incorporate them Can do other walks with CLC, specifically for ACROSS - to be arranged There will also be walks during Bike Walk Bus Week in May • Boston Greenbelt Walk: 30 miles - Greenroutes, Liveable Streets, Free Walkers, Metropolitan Area Planning Council are all working together to arrange this walk. May 17, 2014 Ring walk around Boston, from Malden to Riverside, , through Lexington center. The Waltham Land Trust and other local organizations will be involved with the Lexington area arrangements. The website is: BostonGreenbelt30 • Town Trails Signage: Conservation Stewards now have backing from the Conservation Commission for developing and installing signage on Town properties trails. • Updating ACROSS map: Mike has not heard back from Emily re mapping, hopefully in a week or two. • Community Endowment of Lexington has grant funding opportunity thatRick would like to access to help develop app by David Neal for ACROSS Lexington. Several groups together could apply for the funding as CEL likes collaborative projects. Some ideas are: Historical Society, Citizens for Lexington Conservation, Bikeway Committee. There is a March 15 deadline, so proposal will need to be done asap. • Route C: Keith got out before the snow, presented a new suggested route. It is longer, but uses crosswalks and gets users into Arlington Great Meadow. Discussion yielded some alterations, but a general consensus was reached. Emerson Gardens is private condo complex, so we’ll avoid that road. Use Whipple to Locke to Fairlawn, which will make future access from Locke to Whipple Hill simpler Rick offered to talk to Board of Selectmen, Bike Committee, DPW, already planning to update Lexington Farm Committee on 3/12 Keith will check with John Livsey regarding the boundaries at the Arlington Reservoir Mike will check w/ Friends of Arlington Great Meadow Go check it out! • Next steps: Top on next months agenda will be a discussion of Routes D, E, F, etc - location, length, feasibility, etc. • Conservation Restriction DataBase: Rick will re-send the Dropbox info Next Meeting : March 24, 4:30-6pm, Legion Room, Cary Hall Future Meeting Dates: April 28, May 19, June 23, September 29, October 27, November 24, December 15 Pending Matters Tickler File: · Update Conservation Restrictions Data Base · Work with Town Manager to create protocols for working with abutters for new trail development · Field work to develop West Lexington Greenway Respectfully Submitted, Alexandra Dohan, Secretary
