HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-11-07-HDC-min October 3, 2013 PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Minutes of Thursday, November 7, 2013, Selectmen Meeting Room, Town Hall Building at 7:00PM Commissioners present: Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Daniel Griffin Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg and Barbara Feldman Department Clerk: Linda Rainville FORMAL HEARINGS 19 Hancock Street: Jane Wilson did not appear. 1690 Massachusetts Avenue: Kevin Latady presented plans for signs the Vine Brook Building. The sign on the building will be 12” white letters (same as on the back of the building). There will also be 3 signs on posts (same as existing) in the parking lot. Approved - 3 in favor and one opposed. 7A Meriam Street: Rachael Greenwald, representing Pinots Palette, presented plans for two signs. One sign will be a blade sign with raised letters hung to the left of the door. The second sign will be hand cut letters mounted on fascia board. Approved – All in Favor 55 Forest Street: Henry Liu, showed plans to repair front stair. He will use brick with bluestone caps. He will reuse whatever bricks he can and the bluestone will have rock-face nosing. He will come back with his choice for railings if needed. Approved – All in Favor CONTINUED HEARINGS 9 Meriam Street: Thomas Woods appeared before the Commission with plans for replacing 88 windows. The windows will be wood, 8 over 8 windows to fit within current frames. Approved – All in Favor 19 Muzzey Street: Jeffrey Lyons showed the Commission plans for the new front entry door. The Commission suggested the door be more symmetrical. The shutters will match the others on the building. Hardware will be black. Mr. Lyons will return at a later date with new plans INFORMAL HEARINGS 927 Massachusetts Avenue: Carl Oldenburg presented plans for demolition of the existing single family house and garage, and construction 2 new single family dwellings on this property. While acknowledging that complete demolition of a structure in the district was a serious decision, the commission generally agreed the original house had been seriously compromised by multiple previous renovations, and thus complete demolition was justifiable. The commission emphasized the importance of quality materials, massing and details in the new structures, and was supportive of the proposed design direction October 3, 2013 40 Hancock Street: Residents came to the Commission looking for information/suggestions about painting their house. They presented a color sample of platinum gray 71 for the siding, white for trim, black for shutters and red for the front door. They also brought in house numbers to be attached to the post near the driveway. The commission was supportive of the preliminary color scheme. OTHER BUSINESS Minutes approved with one correction
