Business
• Suzie Barry convened the meeting at 7 pm.
• February 12, 2014 minutes were accepted as adjusted.
• The committee is scheduled to meet every Wednesday until Patriots' Day.
Old Guard Update
Suzie Barry met on February 24th with the Old Guard contingent that included Major Ed
Matthaidess and representatives from the Fife and Drum Corps, Drill Team, Third Infantry and
Public Affairs office for a site visit of the green. The group viewed Cary Hall as well should
inclement weather necessitate moving the performances indoors. It was determined that the
stage, with an extension, is adequate space for both the Drill Team and Fife and Drum Corps.
• Drill Team and Fife and Drum Corps performances: 12 noon on Saturday, April 19, 2014
on the green for 45 -50 minutes
• An 80' x 100' area will roped off for the performances
• Rotary Club will treat the Old Guard to lunch, served at Brookhaven
• Teams will march to the green from St. Brigid's
• Media will not have a designated area
• A small designated area will be provided for Lexington officials and state
representatives only
Patriots' Day 2014
Security matters. A mandatory 11/2 -hour presentation for all Town Celebrations Committee
members by the Lexington Police Department is being planned. Suzie is trying to arrange
for a Wednesday night meeting.
Planning meeting. A stakeholders' meeting is set for Monday, March 10. A location and
time are to be determined.
Calendar of events. The calendar is at the printer and should be ready soon.
Applications for afternoon parade participation.
• The following groups do not ask for compensation to participate. They were
accepted by committee members for entry:
• Bedford Minuteman Company
• Chinese - American Association of Lexington
• Indian- Americans of Lexington
• Lexington Community Farm (and possibly the tractor)
• Lexington High School Class of 1965 & 1975 Chevrolet
• Lexington Youth Commission & Outstanding Youth Award Recipients
• Navy Band New England Region
• St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church
• Solarize Lexington- Bedford
• US Coast Guard Auxiliary & Color Guard
• US Submarine Veterans Marblehead Base
• Wagon Wheel Nursery & Farm Stand
• Two compensated groups were accepted for participation:
• Hallamore Clydesdales
• Lexington Police Department Honor Guard
• In the military /military vehicles category, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers was
accepted at their asking fee. Acceptance of the Big Red 1 Unit (Living History) and
New England Historic Military Vehicle Collectors was tabled until next week pending
Paul Jenkins' obtaining more specific information about the groups.
• Important notice about all vehicle entries. Suzie reiterated that the police will be
inspecting all operator licenses, vehicle insurance and weapons. A list of all
participating vehicles must be submitted prior to parade day.
• "Paul Revere and William Dawes" have been informed that they must arrive at the
Lexington green between 12:45 and 1 pm on parade day.
• Regarding one of the previously accepted band groups, Charlie Price asked if the
committee could reconsider its acceptance. The committee will watch the video of
last year's performance in order to decide.
Memorial Day 2014
World War II veteran Jack Ryan has accepted the committee's invitation to be chief
marshal. Linda Dixon already has a photo of Jack that can be used for publicity. Jack will be
asked to provide a biography.
Other Business
• US Air Force Heritage of America Band update. Staff Sergeant Darren Rayborne made a
site tour of Cary Hall for the band's 2 -hour performance on Friday, April 25th at 7:30 pm
and said that the facility is a perfect venue. The unit will arrive in town around 3 pm, and
Town Celebrations Committee will provide dinner. No date is available yet for obtaining
tickets. The committee will provide ushers and ticket takers and a program can be made
available. It was suggested that the group obtain a color guard from Hanscom AFB. Concert
publicity will be handled by the committee.
• Veterans' Breakfast and Veterans' Day 2014. Suzie will invite VSO Ryan Lennon to a
meeting so that planning and logistics for both events can begin.
