HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-01-29-SLC-min Town of Lexington Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of Meeting of January 29, 2013 A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on January 29, 2013 at Cary Hall. A quorum of six was present. Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair Rick Abrams, Ken Moraff , Rick Reibstein, Todd Rhodes, Dan Voss Members Absent: None Other Attendees: None The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. The minutes from the January 8, 2013 meetings were approved. Mr. Abrams provided an update on Next Step Living (NSL) status, including: Statistics on the past 14 months of Home Efficiency Assessments Press release on the Better Buildings Program Flyer for ÅIce Dams and Heating SystemsÆ event to be held on February 12, 2013 with Lex GWAC and NSL at St. BrigidÈs Church. Mr. Voss provided an update on the Solar Energy Task Force The warrant article has been written The Cadmus technical and economic assessments are complete for the Hadley building. The team is now assessing schools and Hartwell. There may be an opportunity to access a grant (~$12,000) to help fund the work. Mr. Sandeen provided an update on the Climate Action Plan The warrant article has been submitted and signed by the Selectmen last night. Mr. Sandeen led the committee through a review of plans developed by other towns and cities and the committee discussed likely contents of a Climate Action Plan for Lexington. Mr. Reibstein recommended that materials purchasing and toxic materials be included in any plan. The committee discussed the importance of prioritizing areas on which to focus, breaking the problem down into areas where there can be tangible projects. Key issues to address when developing such a plan include: Public engagement Page 1 of 2 Look for priorities based on the biggest ÅROIÆ / tangible projects in each sector. Draw from the public and task forces to address each tangible project area Integrate with existing town departments and committees working in these areas. An outstanding question is whether the Climate Action Plan should be included in the Comprehensive Plan or if it should be external to that plan.
