Sustainable Lexington Committee
Minutes of Meeting of February 28, 2013
A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on February 28,
2013 at Cary Hall. A quorum of five was present.
Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair
Rick Abrams, Rick Reibstein, Todd Rhodes, Dan Voss
Members Absent: None
Other Attendees: Sarah Wilson - Guest
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
Mr. Abrams provided an update on Next Step Living (NSL) status, including:
To date, NSL has completed 458 Home Energy Assessments (HEAs)
In February 2012, 23 HEAs were scheduled
In February 2013, 146 HEAs were scheduled
Statistics on the Total Climate Control (TCC) include:
2,000 door knocks
438 contacts
110 TCC assessments scheduled
There was one negative experience from a TCC assessment. As a result, TCC
activities have been suspended until retraining and corrections are in place.
The committee discussed options to monitor the performance of the program,
including emails to residents that sign up for TCC assessments to help ensure
that the objectives/expectation of the assessment are clear, and phone contacts
with residents following the TCC assessment to assess the quality of the
assessment experience. Potential questions that could be asked in the follow-
up call include:
How did the assessment go?
Did they help you understand your options?
Technical
Financial
How likely would you be to recommend NSL services to friends or family
How long was the visit?
Have you had other NSL services in the past?

Mr. Voss provided an update on the Solar Energy Task Force
Mr. Sandeen sent the Selectmen a request to discuss the two warrants (Climate
Action Plan and Solar Energy 20 year contract)
Mr. Voss will attend a series of meetings (March 3, March 14 and TMMA
meeting to address questions regarding the solar energy warrant.
Mr. Voss will also explore opportunities to coordinate with MAPC (Metropolitan
Area Planning Council) regarding an RFP with Cadmus that MAPC has initiated.
Mr. Sandeen led a discussion to review revised language for the Climate Action Plan
motion to be presented to Town Meeting.
The committee agreed to the language for the motion, adding Å. . . and direct the
Board of Selectmen to develop and implement a comprehensive climate action
planÆ.
Mr. Sandeen presented a letter from Environment Massachusetts intended to be sent
to Governor Patrick requesting that the Governor increase solar development targets.
Several errors were identified in the letter. The committee agreed that once the
errors were corrected that it would recommend that the Town sign the letter in
support of the higher solar development targets.
The committee discussed the issue that programs to help make the financing of
solar system more predictable would be helpful to drive solar development and
that the Solar Energy Task Force could prepare a letter with additional
recommendations to be sent to the Governor.
