Sustainable Lexington Committee
Minutes of Meeting of August 27, 2013
A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on August 27, 2013
at the Town Hall. A quorum of four was present.
Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair
Rick Reibstein, Todd Rhodes, Sarah Wilson
Members Absent: Rick Abrams, Dan Voss
Other Attendees: Toby Armstrong, Sheryl Rosner
The meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm.
Review of the Better Buildings program
Reviewed letter to be sent to residents to encourage consideration of Next
Step LivingÈs (NSLÈs) Total Climate Control (TCC) program à i.e., air-source
heat pump.
The committee unanimously approved the letter with edits.
Electricity Aggregation
Deb Mauger requested a recommendation from the committee regarding
whether the Town should consider electricity aggregation as a strategy for
cost savings and emission reduction. The committee unanimously agreed to
respond with the following:
The Sustainable Lexington Committee recommends that the Town investigate
the benefits of community electricity aggregation. We believe that significant
benefits could be achieved including cost savings and emissions reductions as
demonstrated by other communities throughout the United States.
Climate Action Plan
T. Armstrong led a review of the spreadsheet model that identifies the
anticipated impact of different climate mitigation options on the TownÈs
carbon emissions and discussed 2030 objectives.
Commercial Program
T. Rhodes identified that the plan to send letters to Lexington businesses was
on track (due to go out beginning 9/9/2013). He will meet with Melisa
Tintocalis and Lisa Hadaya (NSTAR) to get an update.
M. Sandeen recommended that the Selectmen review the draft letter.
