Wettstone, Assistant Principal School Site Council Meeting January 23, 2014 - 3:15PM Main Office Jonas Clarke Middle School 17 Stedman Road Lexington, MA 02421 Office: (781) 861 -2450 Fax: (781) 674 -2043 Meeting Notes: In Attendance: Jonathan Wettstone, Assistant Principal; Jennifer Turner, Assistant Principal; Polly Kienle, Parent; Jonathan Schechner, Teacher; Andrea Foley, Teacher; Krystal Leclerc, Teacher; Kelly Manor, Teacher; Sarah Franford, Teacher; Tessa Riley, Assistant Director of Guidance I. Approve Meeting minutes: • Assistant Principals begins by having the council take a look at the meeting minutes from November. Motion made to approve and seconded. II. Update on Site Council Coffee • Low attendance - wanted to inform larger number of purpose and function. • Principal presented function of group. • Powerpoint is online III. Safe Routes to School — Polly Kienle update • Parent provided an update on current efforts with Safe Routes. • Safe Routes will separate from the sidewalk committee and move into the Public Schools - linked to Mary Ellen Dunn and the Finance Department. • The move creates more connections to the Lexington Police Department and School Administration. • Changes will be in place by bus registration for the next school year. • New this year - parent representative for Safe Routes at Clarke, which will hopefully bring the program and resources to the district. Currently looking for a permanent rep. IV. Mid year Update Draft — 2013 -2014 School Improvement Plan • SIP mid -year report distributed • Conducted a review of each goal and implementation step - asked teachers and parent for additional input • A teacher suggested we survey the students about I/E block • Parent said that the kids talk a lot about I/E • Counselor shared other enrichment lessons that have been implemented including Clarke trivia • Teacher connected enrichment ideas to a growth mindset • Council discussed some of the challenges - a suggestion was made that if we add time we could dedicate one block to two subjects and the other on two other subjects • Counselor gave a brief update on Linked Up and explained that Chain Links is now meeting after school V. Student Survey Results • Review of the student survey results • Teacher comments that it is surprising that bullying takes place in the classroom • Parent comments that she feels it takes place during group work • Surprised to see that 60% hadn't accessed Teacher Web in the past week - discussion about whether those students are using their agenda effectively VI. Questions / Concerns • Assistant Principal asks for questions or concerns - things to discuss at next meeting VII. Next meeting - Currently Scheduled for February 6, 2014 • Will have a traffic update and perhaps an update on the SIP after Dr. Ash receives our mid year report
