Agenda
members on council
Louise will acknowledge response of email and
provide information as to when will show up on
agenda.
4. Enrollment discussed at School Committee
meeting Tuesday November 19, 2013. Hastings is
not included in any redistricting plan. Fiske was
discussed due to increasing population.
3 new elementary classrooms across district 2014-
2015.
Fiske and Bridge families spoke about concerns with
movement out of their current schools; equity
among the schools in terms of renovations was
expressed.
Dr. Ash welcomes expertise of community members
with strong background in statistics; projections are
based on census data.
Statement of Interest will be submitted to state in
January as soon as window opens on Hastings for a
building to house 540 children (100 more than
currently enrolled). Town has to vote that they will
fund entire project before state will agree to fund
any reimbursement. The %-age of reimbursement
depends on need. MA Building Assistance Authority
website for general information.
Would like parental help with data collection
regarding traffic flow (8:15-8:40 and 3:15 – at least
two counters: Crosby Rd and the parking lot). Also
need data on cars that park on Roosevelt or Wilson.
Site council members will create a Sign Up Genius or
other way to solicit support with a deadline of data
collection by 12/12
Town wide facilities committee identified top needs
as police, fire, and Hastings School. Town wide
project will often join with a school project for an
override.
4. Feedback on LEF School Community Grant
application – large increase in funding. In past has
been school based (books for classrooms,
conference attendance for teachers) now expanding
to social dynamics around adult interactions;
hosting January 9 book group – Queen Bee Moms
th
and King Pin Dads
End of Feb – community events Lisa Foo, local
psychologist – long term goals for children and what
are doing to help them get there and what’s working
and what is not (pressure cooker lives)
Event for children will be held simultaneously for
mindfulness facilitated by Hastings parent Mary Ann
Burnside (with high school students and perhaps
teachers)
The event will be 6:30-8:00, a Wednesday night and
will include dinner.
End of March – Sarah Ward Executive Function talk
to parents – has worked with staff (Bridge and
Hastings)
Rosalind Wiseman – Teachers in afternoon and
parents in evening
Miranda has looked into opportunities around
teasing and bullying – to be effective must be more
than a one-shot presentation.
Rachel’s Challenge has been done at Diamond
Middle School; another program was done at Clarke.
Clarke was more successful due to follow-up,
curricula, and layered PBIS Positive Behavioral
Support
Hastings Heroes Night – something to consider
Health and Wellness night (Let’s Get Moving). Could
be part of All School Meeting.
Louise has met with Jen Wolfrom Health & Wellness
and Val Viscosi Director of Guidance K-12
