Attendees: Nancy Adler,, Carroll Ann Bottino, Camille Goodwin, Sophia Ho, Gerry Howell, Marion Kilson, Harry Mackay, Barbara Rediker Staff: Charlotte Rodgers, Kelly Axtell, Barbara Deveau A few guests. Nancy opened the meeting with the following announcements: • The newly formed Programming Committee will meet on January 21, 2014. • The next meeting will be the last official meeting for Hank Manz. Public comments: None. Staff reports: Kelly reported that the response to the recent general mailing was "phenomenal ". Many requests have been received for additional "File of Life" materials. The mailing clearly generated broader knowledge of the Human Services Department among elders. Thank you to the volunteers who readied the mailing to over 3,000. Barbara noted the impending startup of the chronic pain class and recognized the role of Tufts University as a sponsor and the participation of faculty as instructors. CCAC update: Nancy said that the Committee is still focused on Phase 1 of the Community Center development and that the opening date has slipped to December 2014. The announcement of the date and place for the next meeting of the CCAC will be coming soon. Discussion of 2015 budget: Charlotte described the Budget and answered several questions. A number of questions were directed at identification of budget items that concerned seniors directly. The difficulty of doing so in the context of the budget for the Human Services Department as a whole was discussed (e.g., the services of transportation and other components to mixed segments of the population). Charlotte agreed to examine the items concerned and provide more details with estimates of income and expenses relevant to seniors where necessary. The figures for previous and current reports to the Executive Office of Elder Affairs were presented and discussed. Increases were noted in overall numbers served and participation particularly in the areas of Health, wellness and fitness. The number of meals provided by Lex Cafe declined for a number of complex reasons including the season and the weather. The new business topic of Associate membership in the COA Board was presented by Harry Mackay and discussed. Harry and Charlotte will follow up to ascertain the experience of other centers that have used this mechanism. Respectfully submitted Harry A. Mackay
