April 29, 2021 Meeting Minutes

Approval of Minutes: 3/25/21
Principal's Report:
• Site council normally advises on School Improvement Plan, but this year we were
working with the district's Strategic Plan. The big goal there is to hire and retain more
diverse staff. As we go into the hiring season, this will be a priority.
• The budget requests for additional staff have been put forward and there is no word that
these will be cut. Hiring will begin soon.
• MCAS plans are moving forward.
Staff Report:
• Teacher reported having a larger room for meeting with students has been helpful during
this full return, Students adjusted well.
• Another teacher reported that students were very excited to get back to "normal" feeling
of class. They did not seem to need the social emotional supports that we planned.
• Still need to plan on working on some norm reinforcing messages with students. Having
more students in the halls will be something to get used to.
• Reminder that safety protocols outside of school are so much more lax than here, so we
will need to continue to remind students of these safety measures.
• Very few bumps to get started, especially with the schedule.
• Discussion for 8th grade activity week, plans still getting settled.
Member Input:
• Parent "thank you" for yesterday's full return.
• Discussion around being in the minority and the stress associated with being minority
status. Appreciative of Lexington's diversity hiring goal.
