HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-05-12-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes May 12, 2021 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer, Chair; Suzanne Caton, Steve Cole, Linda Dixon, Yifang Gong, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Gresh Lattimore, Sondra Lucente, Lorain Marquis, Geetha Padaki, Rita Pandey, Sandy Podgorski, Ashley Rooney, Sue Stering Members Not Present Glen Bassett, Wei Ding, Vivek Gupta, Aneesha Karody, Samita Mandelia, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, John Wu, Sam Zales, Guests: Gina Rada, Doug Lucente (Select Board liaison) Mona Roy, Eileen Jay, Christina Lin, Stephanie Hsu Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:04 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • The committee approved the minutes of April 28, 2021. Lexington Human Rights Committee: • Mona Roy and Stephanie Hsu discussed the activities planned for 2021 Race Amity Day, annually held on the 2nd Sunday of June. • They asked the TCC to co-sponsor Race Amity Day and the committee voted to do so. • Mona Roy noted that the Lexington Select Board has issued a proclamation that May is Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Heritage month. • Christina Lin and Eileen Jay discussed activities related to Asian American and Pacific Islander Day (May 27) in which Lexington children are encouraged to celebrate the contributions by Asian and Pacific Islanders to American society. • June Baer agreed that, in the future, the TCC should coordinate with the Human Rights Committee on future API Day and Race Amity Day celebrations. Memorial Day 2021 • June reported that the committee is looking into buying artificial wreaths to be used for Memorial Day. She also noted that TCC has the stands for the wreaths. Geetha suggested that we buy several extra wreaths in case some are broken or destroyed. • Mary Hutton reported that a video for Memorial Day is in progress. It will include one wreath laying ceremony in Munroe Cemetery at a Civil War veteran's grave and one in Westview Cemetery. The taping will take place on May 22. Mary asked for more TCC volunteers to help with the video. • June reported that bouquets will be placed on the graves of the Civil War veterans who died during the war. Linda Dixon reminded that committee that we have produced many successful events during this difficult pandemic year and we should be proud of our achievements. June reminded the committee that new officers will be elected at the June 9 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Next meeting: Wednesday 5/19/21 Respectfully submitted, Suzanne Caton, Secretary
