HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-04-28-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes April 28, 2021 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer, Chair; Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Linda Dixon, Yifang Gong, Vivek Gupta, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Gresh Lattimore, Sondra Lucente, Lorain Marquis, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski, Ashley Rooney, Sue Stering Members Not Present Steve Cole, Wei Ding, Aneesha Karody, Samita Mandelia, Wayne Miller, Rita Pandey, John Wu, Sam Zales, Guest: Gina Rada Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:06 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • The committee approved the minutes of April 15, 2021. • June noted that Sunday, June 13, is Race Amity Day and that the Lexington Human Rights Committee has reached out to the TCC. Patriots Day, April 19, 2021 Door Decorating Program • Geetha Padaki showed pictures of the decorated doors and winners to the committee. • The committee discussed lessons learned from this year's program and decided that in the future: o A longer registration period should be used o A follow-up reminder should be given to registrants o The program should be held closer to Patriots Day Miles and Smiles Program • There were 46 Smiles and 6 Miles participants in the program. • The sub-committee decided that all participants should receive gift certificates, based on the assumption that $1000 was available for prizes. • There was a discussion of how the gift certificates should be distributed and it was decided that they should be mailed out. Patriots Day Parade • June reported that much positive feedback was received on the parade, which lasted 1 �/z hours on Lex Media. Memorial Day 2021 • The following activities have been proposed: o Placing of wreaths o Unveiling the WWII plaque at Cary Hall o Virtual tour of Civil Was graves in Monroe Cemetery • Linda Dixon noted that a slideshow of WWII vets already exists, which could be part of the ceremony of unveiling the WWII plaque. • Gina Rada noted that the flags placed on veterans graves at Westview Cemetery will be installed the week of May 24 and will stay up until Flag Day in June. • Gina reported that she received the Memorial Day proclamation digitally this year. She suggested that it can be part of a Memorial Day video if created this year. • June asked TCC members to volunteer to help with the Memorial Day program planning.
