Attendance: Nanying Bian, Kim Effron, Eileen Jay, Laura Lasa , Suzanne Lau, Liz Moughty, Katherine Murphy, Walter Richardson, Bob Ruxin, Nancy Shepard, Jill Smilow, David Wininger, Jessica Zhu, Kristen Tissera, Paul Breitenfield), Three Outside Visitors I. Approval of the November 18 minutes 6:15 Minutes approved with no changes II. Announcements 6:20 Reflection on new Naviance System / College Applications Old Business III. 6:30 A.Part 2 of the credit recovery discussion Credit Recovery à referring to a student who has not gained enough credits in a given year to remain on track to graduate with his/her class. Issues / Recap Q: Effect on course distribution requirements? A: Most students can survive a credit decline in one course. Once you have two below the requirement, it is difficult to catch up. In English, Math, and Art (course sequence builds) Science (difficult to fit multiple courses) Is partial credit a bad thing? What role could independent studies play in credit recovery? A short course (1-2 weeks) after school is out to earn back one credit? Biggest need: Transfer credits, struggles, disabilities Would we consider waiving cluster requirements for a student who had X # of Sped services needed? Use of teacher time after senior classes graduate. If following credits have been achieved at the end of the prior year, they will have to overload on credits in order to graduate on time ndrdth 20 (2), 48 (3), 74 (4). Would we want to set a limit on credit recovery in an academic year? Limit courses in terms of time of year? (e.g. 2 additional courses each semester max and a higher limit in the summer.) If we had a recovery program, would we want a balance of online vs. in-person courses? Does the state certify online programs? Q: Extend into department credit recovery to extend school year? A: Numbers too small in order to make it solvent. Is there a way to verify learning with the school? (e.g. in-house assessment after course?) Worried about students trying to graduate early or bypass existing courses. Phys Ed credit recovery? New Business IV. A.X Block, Cluster Requirements, and Honors Classes a.Jigsaw: Pros & Cons list developed for each topic b.Next time: Look at honors by grade level, discipline, and course. IV. Adjournment 7:45
