Let's Chat—December e There was good co�nversation with thoughtful, generalized 6, 2013, Report Card questions. Recommend continued use of close chair placement and the microphone, which deters more than one parent speaking at once. • 18 Parents attended in order to gain information (4 GK, I G1, 4 G 2, 5 G3, I G4, 3 G5). 0 December Faculty meeting found staff mindful that parents received information. 0 Report cards distributed in January a Jan Chat topic: MCAS & PARCC testing 1. Updates a. Suggestion 1) Library Comments - that library class is too structured and Box that there is not enough time for student browsing. b. Arrival Duty Response —parent unaware that students can always visit library versus library class is designed as structured time. G2 Example used where Librarian teaching time allows for small student groups to browse library at times other than assigned class time. • Suggestion —work towards Students becoming library consumers. 2) Cafeteria Choices—students Confused as to what choices come with each meal. Response—explained choice definitions: A fruit &vegetable comes with each meal; selection, of up to 3 choice sides/main course; therefore, entr6e, plus 3 + lunch. Harrington Elementary School Site Council — Meeting Minutes 2013-2014 Academic Year charge is for 2 entrees and water • Suggestion—Will ask vendor to construct a sign to make it easier for students to understand selection process. 3)Staff appreciates when parents sign comment cards so that they are able to reach out in case the question is ambiguous. 4) Assistant principal/designee are outdoors to receive students about 8:13am. 5) Other Updates • Behavior specialist Carmen Susman will meet with staff to discuss de-escalation strategies as part of the professional development related to SIP Goal#2. . • HAWKS roundtable with Ms. Hendrix meets with student volunteers with goal of making Harrington a better place. • Buddy Bench: G2 student suggestion where G2 students work with Ms. Hendrix to provide a safe haven playground bench for those students looking for a buddy. • DESE includes intergrated preschool in Harrington enrollment enrollment numbers and the State Report Card data.Therefore, higher number of student with disabilities. Inclusive numbers indicate 16.3%on IEP plans versus 13%for district. Attendance rate is 96.7%and 100%teachers are high performers. Mean class size 19.7 students. With a 11.9:1 teacher/student ratio. 60 staff and 20 teachers work on Harrington academics 2. Future Topics at Jan 21—(SIP Goal 1). How to use assessment data to address School Council academic needs. Include writer workshop prompts, ipad practice, Meetings differentiation, and engagement; a.
