HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-12-12-TREE-min TOWN OF LEXINGTON LEXINGTON TREE COMMITTEE MINUTES DECEMBER 12, 2013 A meeting of the Lexington Tree Committee was held on December 12, 2013 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Samuel Hadley Public Services Building, Room 125. A quorum of Ðve was present. Members present: John Frey(Chair), Jewel Kuljian, Karen Longeteig, Gerry Paul, Nell Walker, and Chris Filadoro(Superintendent of Public Grounds, Tree Warden). Members absent: Anne Senning, Jim Wood, Deb Mauger(Selectmen liaison). Guest: Matt R. Foti, Matthew R Foti Landscape & Tree Service 1.Jewel Kuljian was appointed as scribe. The minutes of the November 14 meeting were approved as amended. 2. Bylaw tree removal applications and activity(emailed to us). Trees Removed (1254), DBH Removed(8377), Planted (3105), Closed(870). Chris explained that many more sign-offs will be forthcoming soon. Some situations that arise regarding sites were discussed. 3. List/inventory/mapping of newly planted bareroot trees. Chris reported that all Ðfty bareroot trees ordered from Schichtel Nursery have been planted. A private contractor assisted staff with some of the sites. Some examples of sites are East Emerson Road, Grant Street, Worthen Rd., and Munroe Cemetery. A complete list of trees planted by site location and species is needed. 4. Matt Foti a) set back requirements. Should TC draft Article to amend Tree Bylaw? b) Norway Maple status in Tree Maintenance Manual? The Tree Committee decided to meet with Mat Foti at a future time(date to be determined) when more Tree Committee members can be present to discuss these items more fully in order to make these decisions. 5. ? Gary Larson, Landscape Architect for ToyotaÈs latest proposal for replanting. Gary Larson not present at the meeting. Not discussed. 6 Toyota tree replanting review & approve revised Tree Committee recommendations for ZBA. The latest draft of the recommendations presented by John Frey were reviewed , one sentence amended and approval voted by the Tree Committee. John will forward this change today in preparation for the ZBA Meeting to be held this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall in the SelectmenÈs Meeting Room. Of the nine items, number one reads: ÅThe Tree Committee concludes that the screening tree replacement should consist of 10 trees all of which should be along Massachusetts AvenueÆ. Full copy of recommendations attached. 7. Report on SelectmenÈs Budget Meeting and $45,000 request on Tuesday December 3 at 8:30 a.m. Chris received a positive response to his presentation of the budget item to meet the tree planting goal. Four members attended this meeting to support Chris.(Gerry John, Karen and Jewel). 8. Other. Karen will need wire in order to install the remainder of the 300th tree tags on trees planted this fall and would like this to be a meeting agenda item addendum for the next meeting.
