HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-10-16-TCC-minMinutes Town Celebrations Committee October 16, 2013 Training Room, 201 Bedford Street Members present Suzie Barry, Chair; Dick Crogan, co -Vice Chair; Bob Tracey, Co -Vice Chair; Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Paul Jenkins, Barbara Manfredi, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Charlie Price. Members not present Sondra Lucente, Sandy Podgorski, Dave Taylor. Business • The chair declared that a quorum was present. • Two guests attended the meeting: Lorain Marquis, a prospective member, and Richard McDonough, attending as part of his Citizen's Academy responsibilities • The committee approved the minutes of September 18, 2013 • The next meeting on October 30 will focus on final preparations for the Veterans Breakfast New Member Recruitment The New Member Open House will take place on Thursday evening, October 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the home of Linda Dixon. Twenty -five prospective members will be invited. Eight committee members volunteered to attend the event and to contribute a menu item. The Committee reviewed the format for the evening as well as the main points for the informal group discussion. Veterans Day 2013 Veteran's Breakfast • Setup: Setup will take place at Keilty Hall on Friday, November 1 at 2:30 p.m. • Ticket sales: slow at this point, but we are in the early stages. • Speaker: The speaker is LTC Ted Weibel, Commander, Detachment 365, Air Force ROTC at MIT. • Door Prizes: Dick and Sandy continue to make great progress in securing door prizes. Veteran's Day Parade and Ceremony • Assignments: Suzie, Bob, Linda, Paul, Wayne and Mary will report to the Police Station parking lot at 9:30 a.m. to help organize the parade. At 10:00, Mary will move into Cary Hall while the others will complete the parade route and return to Cary Hall at approximately 10:50 a.m. Julie, Dick and Barbara will report directly to Cary Hall after the parade steps off. • Chief Marshal & Speaker: Mary Gillespie will request a biographical profile from Col McLaughlin. • Wreaths: Have been ordered • Clergy: All set Patriots Day 2014 • Parade application: This year, the parade application will change to an on -line version. Other Business • Updating Committee Website: Suzie has met with the new town webmaster and Assistant to the Town Manager Candy McLaughlin to look into updating the Celebrations Committee website. All agreed the site needs to be more representative of the wide range of committee activities and could be improved with more images.
