Veterans Day 2013
Veteran's Breakfast
• Joint effort with Bedford: This event will now become the Lexington /Bedford Veteran's Breakfast
after consultation with the respective Town Managers. Issues such as dual funding, annual site
selection, solicitation and marketing policies, ticket sales venues, and the possible involvement of
the VA hospital are still to be worked out.
• Door prizes: The committee reviewed a chart listing candidates for solicitation of door prizes and
offered additional suggestions.
Veteran's Day Parade and Ceremony
• Grand Marshal: after discussion, the group condensed the list of current candidates to a shorter
list of names.
Promotional Article: At the next meeting, we will select likely interview candidates from last
year's breakfast attendance list. Linda will contact these individuals with the goal of
interviewing several and writing a feature article for submission to the Lexington Minuteman.
Speaker: Col Robert McLaughlin has been contacted. He would be pleased to be a speaker on
Veteran's Day or sometime in the future; however, he is currently deployed in the western U.S.
and would need the committee to pay his transportation costs. The committee consensus was not
to invite Col McLaughlin at this time.
Linda suggested one or more possible speakers from the ROTC leadership cadre at MIT and
agreed to make contact and report back at the next meeting.
Patriots Day 2014
• Electronic application: As a result of a meeting at Town Hall withSuzie, Linda and Candy
McLaughlin, the committee now has an on -line parade application in draft form. For the 2014
parade, applicants will receive a letter directing them to this dedicated section on the Town
website.
• Security planning: a small group of stakeholders who are closely involved with security issues for
the reenactment and the afternoon parade will meet regularly beginning in August.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Dixon, Co- Secretary
