They would like to resurface the driveway area with asphalt surrounded by 4 rows of cobblestone pavers around the edge. The Commission voted 5 -0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness the driveway resurfacing as shown. Certificate No. 2013C -26 Voting Commissioners were:, Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Daniel Griffin and Associate Commissioner: Carl Oldenburg, Marilyn Fenollosa and Barbara Feldman 9 Brigham Road: William J. Picard, representing David and Judy Crayer did not attend this meeting. 1707 Massachusetts Avenue: Tim Loft, Dunkin Donuts, showed drawings for replacing existing signage. He would like to have the same size signs but add the corporate colors. The Commission agreed to the pink and orange sign with no background and without the cup for the side of the building and the gold and gray sign for the back of the building. The Commission requested that Mr. Loft bring back renderings of the new signs. Continued until July 2013 755 Massachusetts Avenue: Steven Ervin, Follen Church, presented drawings of the drain grate and pavers to be used in the parking area. They will also construct a 16" wall (below bumper height) and add a bench. The Commission voted 5 -0 to approve the resurfacing of side walk area including the granite cap and bench. Certificate No. 2013C -27 Voting Commissioners were: Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Daniel Griffin and Associate Commissioner: Carl Oldenburg, Marilyn Fenollosa and Barbara Feldman 561 -563 Massachusetts Avenue: Stephen Kean presented plans to change the landscape timbers and replacement windows. The Commission discussed the use of wood windows. The Commission agreed to the extension of the landscape timbers and the replacement of the windows using all wood windows. We need a record of which wood windows are proposed before we can issue a certificate. Applicant should provide manufacturer and model number or style for verification. Some times applicants think they are installing wood windows when only the interior portion of the window is wood. Jim Tanner, Harvey Windows brought an aluminum clad window to demonstrate. The Commission explained they prefer a wood window to keep the residential effect of the building. Continued until July 2013 FORMAL HEARINGS CONTINUED 55 Waltham Street: Jeffrey Lyons, presented drawings showing new side steps and porch. The Commission asked if there was a need for handicap accessibility. There is no handicap accessibility at this time. The handrails and banister was discussed, the Commission would like the rails to match to one already on the building (rod iron). Continued until July 2013 19 Muzzey Street: Jeffrey Lyons and Gary Larson, representing 19 Muzzey Street Realty Trust presented preliminary plans for changes to the entranceway. They were looking for input on the design. The commission suggested that there should be more consistency between design elements of the new entrances and the third existing entrance, in terms of materials and especially handrails. Black, wrought iron railings were suggested. Suggestions were also made for simplifying the grade changes between the various entrances. Continued until July 2013 18 Hancock Street: Christopher and Emily Newton Cheh presented plans to change their driveway. The will replace the crushed rock with pavers (Stonehinge coffee creek color - 6x6, 6x12, 12x12 in random pattern). Certificate No. 2013C -29 Voting Commissioners were: Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer Daniel Griffin and Carl Oldenburg Associate Commissioner: Marilyn Fenollosa and Barbara Feldman 59 Forest Street: Bill and Anna Smith presented a change in the plans to replace windows originally approved on January 8, 2013. The difference in the plan is to change the windows from 6 over 12 lite windows to 6 over 9 lite windows. The Commission voted 5 -0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness the driveway resurfacing as shown. Certificate No. 2013C -30 Voting Commissioners were: Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Daniel Griffin and Associate Commissioner: Carl Oldenburg, Marilyn Fenollosa and Barbara Feldman 739 Massachusetts Avenue: Paul Menz presented changes to the original request regarding the signage at the Waldorf School. The new proposal is to use Mahogany wood with carved accents and brush aluminum lettering. And the lighting to change from 4000k to 3000k. The lighting will be hidden in planting beds at the street sign. The Commission voted 5 -0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness the driveway resurfacing as shown. Certificate No. 2013C -31 Voting Commissioners were:, Lynn Hopkins, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Daniel Griffin and Associate Commissioner: Carl Oldenburg, Marilyn Fenollosa and Barbara Feldman 1984 Massachusetts Avenue: David & Caroline Kluchman, and Martin Dermady, Dermady Architects, presented existing and proposed drawings. The applicants are proposing to change the rooflines on the rear of property, add a second story to existing single story areas, and add a story to the barn. They presented revised plans showing the changes regarding the second story addition to the barn and ramp leading in to the barn. The barn will be used for storage only. The hayloft will have a hinged door, barn will be painted gray. The Commission has concerns about the grade going up to the barn door. The Commission approves the plan in concept. Mr. and /or Mrs. Kluchman will return with samples of paint colors and materials for the barn. Continued until July 2013 Tourism Committee: Dawn McKenna, Chairman Tourism Committee, Signage, (Calendar signs at Visitors Center and Emery Park, storytelling sign on the Battle Green, parking signs throughout Center) in the Battle Green District. Continued until July 2013 HDC Minutes, June 6, 2013 3 Tower Park: Dawn McKenna, Chairman Tourism Committee, Exterior Architectural Change (Design of Antony Park within Tower Park) in the Munroe Tavern District. Continued until July 2013 FORMAL HEARINGS CONTINUED 2013 and 2027 Massachusetts Avenue: Trisha Perez Kennealy, AB Holdings presented to the Commission plans for signage. The main sign will be Jasper Green with Palladium lettering. The Main sign will be hung on the existing wooden posts painted white to match the trim. The lighting will be the same as before with warm color temperature. Sign "A" mounted on posts, smaller version of Main sign. Signs B, C, D are plaques 12 "x6" that will be affixed to the houses next to the doors. The Commission voted 5 -0 to approve: Main sign 2'x2' green with palladium letters rod iron brackets, Parking sign same as Main sign slightly shorter, 12 x 6 house sign "Build 1988 ", Restaurant sign — navy blue letters with gray background with trim. Doors with Etched Lettering. Two bike racks (black) will the installed on each side of the light pole. The racks are approximately 4' in length, mounted into footings Certificate No. 2013C -32 Sign F is not included in vote. Ms. Kennealy will return with information regarding material and lighting for Sign F. INFORMAL HEARINGS 18 Hancock Street: Christopher and Emily Newton Cheh presented plans to correct wood destruction problems. The wood gutters leak at joints and overflow in heavy rains. The fascia below the gutter needs to be replaced because of the water damage. The Commission recommended covering the fascia with azek. Gutters can be replaced with wood gutters with a larger capacity or copper gutters or gutters made with azek. The Commission suggested they check on Forester, Anderson- McQuade or a specialty millwork supplier for more information. 33 Forest Street: Hancock Clarke Condominium Association, Exterior Architectural Change (parking lot) in the Battle Green District. Postponed to July meeting per email. 11 Hancock Street: Daniel Abramson presented a radon mitigation plan for his home. The mitigation system would be piped along the basement floor and up the outside of the fireplace chimney. The Commission recommended piping through a unused flue in the chimney, boxing the pipe along the floor or along the joists and then piping it to the outside in the back of the chimney. Mr. Abramson will investigate these options and return to the Commission.. 1556 Massachusetts Avenue: Ms Melendez presented plans for a gate to be put between the barn and the house. It will be Essex Green; posts will have a flat cap. She also showed plans for a brick walkway between the driveway and front of house. It will be constructed in a curved herringbone pattern. The Commission supported the proposed design and suggested the applicant submit for a formal hearing.
