A meeting of the Recreation Committee was held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the
Selectman's Meeting Room
Members Present: Sandra Shaw, Wendy Rudner, and Lisah Rhodes
Members Absent: Rick DeAngelis and Howard Vogel
Staff Present: Karen Simmons, Director of Recreation, Peter Coleman, Supervisor of
Recreation, and Sheila Butts, Assistant Director of Recreation
Others Present: Hank Manz, Board of Selectmen Liaison, and David Maestri, Recreation
Summer Intern, Jamie Sabbach, 110 Percent, Strategic Plan Consultant
The Recreation Committee meeting began at 6:20 p.m.
• Karen Simmons, Director of Recreation, provided the members present with a brief history of the Strategic
Plan process and findings to date. She introduced Jamie Sabbach, 110 Percent, the Strategic Plan
Consultant.
• Ms. Sabbach walked the Recreation Committee through the Strategic Plan Draft that she is presenting to
the Board of Selectmen. She acknowledged the staff, members of the community and project team that
were involved in the entire process. Ms. Sabbach provided and overview of the Strategic Plan Draft, which
she explained began with an operational assessment including staff and Recreation Committee workshops,
focus groups comprised of municipal, school and community leaders, and a Community workshop. She
stressed the importance of the evaluation and assessment process in the ultimate development of any
Strategic Plan, as this identified key issues, such as:
• Economic challenges
• Maintaining the infrastructure
• Changing community demographics
• Health and wellness of the community
• Outreach to the community
Ms. Sabbach also reviewed the Organizational Priorities and Goals detailed within the Strategic Plan
matrix. These are:
Community engagement and outreach
Financial stability and resilience
Preserve, protect and improve Lexington's recreational infrastructure
Operational excellence to exceed customer expectations.

• At 7:00 p.m. the Recreation Committee joined the Board of Selectmen Meeting. Ms.
Sabbach and Ms. Simmons presented the Draft Recreation Strategic Plan to the Board of
Selectmen
The next meeting of the Recreation Committee will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
in the Town Office Building Parker Room.
The July 29, 2013 meeting of the Recreation Committee adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
