Minutes
May 20, 2008

1. Minutes: There were no corrections or comments for the March Minutes. Hank Manz
stated that there was no quorum for the meeting. He also noted that March Minutes would be
posted on the HFAC website this week.
2. Monthly Noise Report: Cedric Daniel presented the monthly noise report. In
response to questions, C. Daniel explained that:
The price of fuel may be one factor of many that influences jet activity.
April 2008 did not have as much rain as April 2007, which can
influence local activity.
3. Capital Projects: Dorothy Steele offered a status and responded to questions
regarding:
Massport’s new noise monitor software for Logan and Hanscom
continues to undergo testing. A new Hanscom Field-Aircraft Disturbance Report
form was developed and is currently being used to respond to
inquiries/complaints. The new form was presented to HFAC at the March
meeting.
The development of the second phase of the Vegetation Management
Program is still being drafted. Massport will present it to the community in the
near future.
Massport has received all required permits for the Runway Safety Area
project. The project was awarded to a Bedford-based landscape company
through the open bid process.
Since last reported, there have been no discussions with cargo and/or
commercial carriers regarding these types of operations at Hanscom. Massport
continues to receive inquiries from businesses interested in corporate hangar
development.
4. Community Issues: Raised by Sara Mattes:
Hanscom Air Force Base-Sara Mattes informed the group that a new
command staff will soon be stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base. She
reminded folks that HATS normally hosts a dinner to introduce the new
command to Hanscom area community leaders, contacts and representatives.
Route 128 Development-Sara Mattes briefed the group about the status of
ongoing discussions with neighboring towns regarding Route 128 corridor
planning near Hanscom.
She also elaborated on the status of a potential development (Peace
Palace) near the Minuteman National Park.
There was an in-depth discussion on the Governors’ May 15 visit to HAFB
and on the status of the Commonwealth’s collaborative effort to develope a
proposal that will convince the Department of Defense that Cyber Command
should be sited at HAFB.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m. The next meeting was scheduled for June 17,
2008 at 7 p.m.
