HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-06-13-LBAC-min,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 APRIL 11- k /NG'V APPROVED MEETING MINUTES Committee Name: Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee Date, Time and Location of Meeting: June 13, 2013, 7 pm, Town Office Building Members Present: Peggy Enders (Chair), Bob Dangel, Stew Kennedy, Bob Hausslein (FoLB Chair), George Gagliardi, Mike Tabaczynski, Richard Canale (Planning Board Liaison), Sandra Shaw (Recreation Committee Liaison) Member Absent: Patria Lanfranchi, John Frey, Marita Hartshorn Others Present: Laurel Carpenter Minutes: The May 2013 minutes were accepted as submitted. Input to Selectmen's Goal Setting: Peggy said that the committee's input to the Selectmen has been submitted; thanks to Laurel and Bob Dangel for helping to beef up the recommendations. Peggy said that she will share the document with others, as well. Bikeway Intersection Safety: Peggy said would set up a meeting with the town engineers to talk about plans for upgrading some of the more dangerous intersections — particularly Hancock and Revere Streets. Such a meeting would also provide a chance to talk about bike accommodation plans on streets that have been recently paved (e.g., Lincoln and Adams) or are currently being worked on (e.g., Old Mass Ave, Bedford Street). DCR Wayfinding and Bike Map Projects Status: a. Toole Design Group Open House: No word yet on the final report from Toole Group. The next phase of the project will require strong support from the Town as well as good collaboration among the three bikeway towns. b. Bikeway Map: Ten thousand copies of the 13x19" map were printed in late May! It is also posted as pdf's on the Minuteman Bikeway website, and publicity has gone out to newspapers in the three towns, the Globe, etc. Liaison Reports: Dick Canale talked about the Healthy Communities project. According to a recent survey, the Bikeway is the highest rated resource in the Town, and transportation- related safety was the highest rated issue. The next phase of the Healthy Communities project begins in September. He would like to use the opportunity to ,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 APRIL 11- k /NG'V highlight Active Streets legislation and to be the first town in Massachusetts to be certified. Other Business: Bob Hausslein said that the working group on handicap access to Parker Meadow needs a letter of support from the committee; he will draft a letter for Peggy's signature. The meeting was adjourned at 7:07 pm. Record of the Discussions of Friends of Lexington Bikeways 1. The Treasurer's Report was given. The invoice for Bikeway plowing for 2012 -13 was $3,900; the committee should expect to resume fund raising in the fall. 2. Brush Cleanup on the Bikeway: The group agreed there was much overhang on the Bikeway that would profit from an organized activity sometime this summer. 3. Farmer's Market Bike Corral: The next corral is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9. Sandra commented that the location for the June corral was "terrible," given its location and the size of the corral. The corral needs to be bigger (this can be arranged), but whether the location can be changed is up to the market manager. 4. Garfield Street Access Project (status): Not much progress to report. 5. Bikeway Steps to the Town Offices Project (status): This project is dead in the water. The meeting adjourned at around 7:20 pm.
