HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-06-06-COD-min Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for June 6, 2013 5 45pm to 7 00pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall Members Present Victoria Buckley, Sue Cusack, Janice Cyr, Michael Martignetti, Julie Miller, Leonard Morse-Fortier, Janet Perry, and Francine Stieglitz Members Not Present Staff Present Garry Rhodes and Linda Vine Additional Attendees Mark Barrett, Town of Lexington Architect on Staff Meeting Began at 5 45pm 1 Minutes for the May meeting were approved with minimal edits 2 Farewell to Garry Rhodes a A pot luck dinner and gift was provided by CoD members in honor of Garry Rhodes who is retiring from his position as the Lexington Building Inspector in July b The CoD shared many "Garry stories" depicting the numerous accessibility related issues he effortlessly championed and effectively resolved His active involvement in the CoD has enabled us to take quantum leaps forward with increasing accessibility in Lexington We truly appreciate all his efforts and wish him the very best with his retirement plans c We received an update on interviews from Janet Perry and Linda Vine on candidates interviewed to date for the Building Inspector position Due to the importance of this position to the CoD, we would like to recommend that attending the CoD meetings is added to the job description 3 Accessibility Barriers in Public Buildings Mark Barrett, who works for Pat Goddard went over itemized accessibility barriers identified during site visit for LHS, Diamond, Harrington, and Hastings Schools and the Central Administration building The budget has been approved to make some of the improvements A suggestion was made to leave the items identified on the project plan and mark them as "completed" with dates to provide a record of work that has been requested and completed 4 Parkin issues for businesses in Lexington who do not have accessibility spaces We learned that if it is an issue regarding a private property, it is handled by the Building Inspector If the issue is regarding a public property, it is forwarded to Linda Vine a Dan Murphy sent a letter requesting the CoD look at several businesses in Lexington who do not have accessibility spaces Dan will be invited to attend one of the CoD meetings to detail his request Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for June 6, 2013 5 45pm to 7 00pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall 5 Disability Law Center Conference—Marlboro, MA on June 7th Requests were made for CoD attendees to surface The Ride as an issue and handicapped placard acquisition procedures 6 Parker Meadow Accessibility— CDC grant for Beaver Pond accessibility—update from Michael Martignetti, the CoD liaison a Parker Meadow conservation land is near Revere Street The committee would like to build an accessible area, a boardwalk from the bike path to Revere St that has a viewing area near the water They will pursue CAP money to fund the project 7 Goals for 2014 for Board of Selectmen A request has been made of major Town Boards to submit goals for 2014 and 2015 The Commission was not asked to do so and may want to provide input where appropriate 6 Additional new business and update on new protects There was a short discussion of concerns about the Cary Memorial Building Project plans and the involvement of Commission as liaison to the next phase (Design and Construction Documents) Discuss further at next meeting Meeting Adjourned at 7 00 pm Next Meeting: July 11, 2013 Meeting Minutes Submitted by: Janice Cyr, Commission Member
