Annroval of April 9 Meeting Minutes
The committee did not have any comments or concerns. The motion to approve the April 9 th TSAC meeting minutes was
passed unanimously.
Police Traffic Safetv Updates
MassAve from Clarke Street to Woburn Street— Center Committee concern: Crosswalks within the center are poorly lit
and dangerous to cross even during the day.
It was discussed and the consensus was that TSAC would recommend replacement of the worn pedestrian signs that are
in the middle of Mass. Ave. This would be a reasonable cost - effective action with minimal impact to sight lines and sign
clutter. There was some discussion of new pavement markings for better visibility. Engineering will review when the
markings were last installed and the need for new markings. The close proximity of the crossings to each other and
HDC concerns will be taken up in future pending redesign of the Massachusetts Ave (Lexington Center) project.
Stedman Road from Allen Street to rear of Clarke Middle School —Resident concern: Stedman Road should not be a
student drop off. This area is very congested in the morning.
Traffic counter was deployed on Stedman Road and traffic volumes have increased tremendously. Over a seven day period
the average volume per day was 403 vehicles. The administration has informed staff not to park on Stedman, and has been
working with parents educating them not to drop off students at the back entrance. TSAC recommendation was to wait
until the proposed new bus -loop has been completed before recommending any "No Parking" signs along Stedman. Funds
were approved by Town Meeting for the design and construction of a bus loop for the school.
Lois Lane at Bedford St Resident concern: Egress and Ingress to Lois Lane are hazardous due to vehicles parking on both
sides of Lois Lane.
The concern is during the morning commute, school drop off and pick up times. Parking guidelines are not being followed
by residents, TSAC will hold off on any type of signage recommendations until more information is gathered. It was
determined that Lois Lane is a public way and therefore under town jurisdiction.

North Street between Lowell St and Adams Street— Resident concern: Vehicles parking in violation of the NO Parking
Signs.
Area was review by police department on 5/25/13 and signage is visible. Suggest adding a sign to the parking area near
Adams Street which identifies and states North Street pits conservation parking. This is and will continue to be a police
matter and enforcement of the no parking signs will continue.
Traffic Safety Request Form — Candy McLaughlin was present to discuss the electronic form and how the committee would
like it to be set up. Mary Ann went into more of the nuts and bolts of what is required behind the scenes to make this form
as efficient as possible. TSAC provided input on the form and will review updated version of electronic forms in
subsequent meetings.
New Business
• TSAC was informed that the sidewalks on Winthrop Street were approved by the Board of
Selectman. In response to the TSAC request form from Winthrop Street residents on traffic
calming Lexington PD was planning a speed study upon availability of the equipment. Traffic
mitigation measures are also being planned at the intersections with Highland Ave, Sherburne Rd
and John Poulter Rd.
• The town envisions a number of street reconstruction projects this construction season with likely
traffic impacts.
• Given the number of projects, there will likely be a shortage of police detail.
