Meeting Minutes for May 2, 2013

Members Present: Victoria Buckley, Janice Cyr, Julie Miller, Leonard Morse-Fortier,
and Francine Stieglitz
Members Not Present: Michael Martignetti, Janet Perry and Susan Cusack
Staff Present: Linda Vine
Additional Attendees: Stephen Keane, Director of Lexington Housing Authority and
Sylvia Mihich, Architect with Studio G
Meeting Began at 6:00pm:
1. The minutes for the March and April meetings were approved unanimously.
2. Presentation by Stephen Keane, Director of Lexington Housing Authority
regarding the new accessible housing at Greeley Village.
a. Funding was approved for four accessible apartments -one bedroom and
studio units- in one building in the center or Greeley Village. Plans were
reviewed with the CoD. Plans are to build a passive solar building. Some
trees in the area will be lost due to the passive solar plans and the need to
maximize solar. Parking is being expanded to add four more accessible
parking spots. Existing paths are being re-routed to the community center
and create access to the units.
b. The community building has been renovated and is totally accessible.
c. Tenants must meet income and accessibility requirements to qualify for
these new Greeley Village units.
d. Timing—will be out to bid in January 2014.
e. Stephen requested a letter of endorsement from the CoD approving the
plans for the accessible units. CoD voted and agreed to endorse.
3. Discussion of concerns about the Cary Hall renovation plans.
a. Further discussion is needed for concerns regarding accessibility issues
with the renovation plans. Pat Goddard (or Mark Barrett) will be invited
to the next meeting to discuss the plans further.
4. Parking issues for businesses in Lexington.
a. A number of businesses in Lexington do not have handicapped parking
spots for their business.
b. Church of our Redeemer—leases spots to the town for town businesses
employees. The Lexington Arts and Crafts Society on Waltham St. also
leases spots to the town.
c. The CoD discussed how to approach these businesses.
i. When permits are issued for repaving, handicapped spots could be
requested at this time.
ii. This issue will need to be discussed further.

5. Discussion of safety issues from the Transportation Forum held on 3/26.
a. Francine gave a report on what happened at the Transportation Forum.
Issues discussed were:
i. Safe routes to schools
ii. May 6th week is "Walk, Bike and Bus to School Week"
iii. DPW has a"trip hazard"maintenance program and has to reset
ramps and bricks in many areas of town
6. Additional new business and update on new projects.
a. Big meeting in Worcester June 7th on Accessibility. Victoria has asked if
someone from CoD can attend with her.
b. Linda will invite one of Police Captains to come to our July meeting to
talk about parking ticket fines for handicapped parking violations.
