of the
Communications Advisory Committee
Minutes from January 16, 2013
Present: David Buczkowski and Linda Roemer, CAC; Jane Lyman, Comcast
The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by Dave Buczkowski.
There was general agreement that no major changes were likely to be needed.
Dave Buczkowski asked Jane if there were things that Comcast would like to have
changed. She indicated that they were using more or less the same contract for
all negotiations. Dave indicated that we were interested in having our contracts
with the three cable providers be similar. It was agreed that Jane would send the
committee a copy of the contract they are using and that the members of the
committee would review the current Comcast contract and compare the two.
Jane indicated that Comcast continued to work on storm repairs and was
responding quickly to downed wires and hanging wires but that often the
problem was not theirs.
In response to a list of town needs, Jane stated that Comcast was not, on the
whole, willing to provide extended data and internet services because this was a
cable contract. However, the library received some free bandwidth as a result of
Comcasts's Free Library Program.
Jane was not hopeful of help for the senior center but indicated that some more
cable boxes or adaptors could be provided to the larger schools and that this need
not wait for the new contract but could be done now.
It was noted that a public hearing had already been held.
Those at this meeting agreed that it would be ideal to have the new contract
ready for approval by the Board of Selectmen in March, 2014.
The next meeting was set for Tuesday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Roemer
