Minutes of Meeting of October 26, 2012

2020 Vision Committee
A meeting of the was held on Friday, October 26at 7:45 a.m. in the
Selectmen’s Meeting Room in the Town Office Building at 1625 Massachusetts Avenue. A quorum of 6
was present.
Present: Members Fernando Quezada, Jane Warren, Dan Krupka, Marian Cohen, Peter Lee, Bhumip
Khasnabish; Liaisons George Burnell Margaret Coppe
(BOS),(SC)
Staff: Candy McLaughlin, Michelle Stevens
Absent: Members Alan Wrigley, Andrew Dixon, Chuck Benson, Peter Enrich; Liaison Greg Zurlo
(PB)
Others present: Carroll Ann Bottino
Action Items:
Fernando will check with Greg Zurlo from the Planning Board regarding the statement supporting
the community survey.
Candy will check with Carl regarding pretesting for the community survey.
Appoint a Committee member to oversee the publicity efforts for the community survey.
The meeting acted on the following items:

The Committee approved the minutes from September 28, 2012.
Heard and discussed report from subcommittee to broaden Asian-American participation in local
government:
Dan said the subcommittee is continuing to meet with the Town’s Department Managers.
He said they are scheduled to the meet with the Library Director as well as a local real estate agent in
November. He said the subcommittee is also finalizing the tool they developed to interview Asian-
Americans serving on Town Boards or Committees. He said they hope to ask the Committee to approve it
at their next meeting. Finally, he said they still plan to reach out to other communities in the coming
months; they have developed questions, but aren’t ready to initiate that discussion yet.
Continued discussing community survey:
Marian said she received some content feedback from a
couple of Selectmen. The Committee reviewed the comments and revised the survey. Marian said only
the School Committee has formally approved the statement supporting the community survey. Fernando
said he will follow-up with Greg from the Planning Board. Candy said it is an agenda item for the Board

of Selectmen meeting on Monday, October 29. Marian said Carl asked if the Committee was planning to
do any pretesting of the survey. She believes he is concerned with the usability of the study, as opposed to
the content. Therefore, she proposed the members of the 2020 Vision Committee test the survey for
usability. Candy said she will confirm with Carl.
The Committee discussed publicizing the survey. Fernando suggested asking the various Town Boards
and Committees to promote the survey. Marian also said the Committee should send it out to the
listserves. Candy said they can also post a link to the survey on LexEngage and the Town website.
Fernando said someone from the Committee needs to oversee the publicity efforts.
The Committee approved the Town Report narrative and took a Committee photo.
