HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-04-11-LBAC-min,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 APRIL 11- k /NG'V APPROVED MEETING MINUTES Committee Name: Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee Date, Time and Location of Meeting: April 11, 2113, 7 pm, Town Office Building Members Present: Stew Kennedy (Acting Chair), Marita Hartshorn, Bob Hausslein (FoLB Chair), George Gagliardi, and Bob Dangel Members Absent: Peggy Enders, Patria Lanfranchi, Mike Tabaczynski, and John Frey Others Present: Laurel Carpenter Minutes: The February minutes were accepted as submitted; the record for the March meeting was submitted but not voted on (no quorum for March meeting). Winter 2012 -13 Plowing: The bikeway has been plowed several times since our last meeting. To date we have not been billed. Bikeway Closing: In the near future there will be a detour of the bikeway between Seasons Four and Woburn Street while a culvert is reconstructed. Bike Walk `n Bus Week (May 5 to 11): We have planned four rides during this week. Sunday May 5, 10:00 a.m. Leader -Bob Dangel, Sweep - Marita Hartshorn, Monday, May 6, 5:00 p.m. Leaders: Paul Knight and Patria Lanfranchi, Tuesday, May 7. 10:00 a. m. Leader Stew Kennedy, Friday, May 10, 6:00 p.m. Leader -Aaron Ladd. There will be free bike safety checks all week at the Ride Studio Cafe. DCR Wayfinding and Bike Map Projects Status: Toole Design Group Open House: We have rented the Depot on May 5th from 1:00 to 4:00 in order to provide Toole Design a venue near the Bikeway to present their preliminary recommendations for improvements to the Bikeway user experience. We will advertise this event along with Bedford and Arlington and furnish liquid refreshments. Bikeway Map: The map is progressing. Vistaprint donated $2,500 for costs associated with printing the map. Bikeway Intersections and recent email traffic: There has been some chatter on the Lexington List site regarding unsafe cycling and Bikeway intersections. To date the town has improved Westview and Woburn Street intersections and have ,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 APRIL II � k /NG'V indicated a plan to upgrade Hancock Street. Committee members urged that priority be given to these improvements. The meeting was adjourned. Record of Discussions of Friends of Lexington Bikeways 1. Treasurer's Report: We had no significant expenditures or credits. We approved an expenditure of $200 for the depot rental and urge Peggy to take the funds from our grant. 2. Patriot's Day Plans: Bob Hausslein has constructed the boardwalk and along with Don Grant will bring it to our starting point. Marita has signed up 15 participants who will either walk or ride. All should meet at 1:30. 3. Bikeway Cleanup Day (Saturday, May 11): Bob Hausslein will organize sections and captains. 4. Bikeway Trail Count: We will do counts on Tuesday, May 7 and Sunday, May 12. We will ask Margaret Stebbins to coordinate using a Doodle poll. 5. Garfield Street Access Project: Bob Hausslein is meeting a scout on Friday, April 12 to explain the project and made suggestions. 6. Bikeway Steps to the Town Offices Project: Bob and Mike are meeting with a scout on Sunday, April 14 to explain this project. The Conservation Commission has approved the use of plaques on projects to give credit to the makers. 7. Other Business: Bob Dangel said there is a perennial puddle at Season's Four. Perhaps this will be solved when the bikeway is repaved. Upcoming Dates • LBAC /FoLB meeting Thursday, May 9, at 7 PM, Room G15, Town Office Building. • Second Annual Massachusetts Trail Conference, Saturday, May 4, 8 to 4 pm in Devens, MA. Hosted by the Massachusetts Recreational Trails Advisory Board and DCR. • Toole Design Group Open House: Recommendations for the Minuteman Bikeway, Sunday, May 5, 1 — 4 pm, at the Lexington Depot • Lexington Bike Walk `n Bus Week, Sunday through Saturday, May 5 to 11 • Bikeway Cleanup Day: Saturday, May 11, 9 to 12 Noon • Bikeway Trail Count Days: Tuesday, May 7, and Sunday, May 12.
