Winter 2012 -13 Plowing: The bike path has been plowed three times this winter, twice for minor storms and once for the major 28" snowfall. Mass Ave Corridor Workshop (February 6): John Frey reported that bike lanes are still in the plans. Richard Canale said that he thinks roundabouts are safer than traffic lights at intersections; drivers are more aware of cyclists. Peggy will invite Dave Cannon to a future meeting to talk about the current plans for the Mass Ave corridor improvements. Complete Streets Workshop (February 7): Bob Dangel, John, Laurel, and Stew attended, as did town staff and members of boards and committees. Bob felt the most important take -away was that each street is unique and should be treated as such. Richard Canale talked again about an experiment with dotted advisory bike lanes on either side of Shade Street. With this bicycle accommodation, cyclists would have a clear idea of their travel area, and cars would have the freedom to cross the dotted lines when meeting an oncoming vehicle in a narrow street. He feels this is a better solution for narrow streets than sharrows. The committee agreed to raise this idea again when Dave Cannon is present. Lexington Bike Walk `n Bus Week (May 5 to 11): As part of the week's activities, the committee will be hosting a number of bike rides, including an evening ride lead by Aaron Ladd and a weekday ride led by Stew Kennedy to Great Brook Farm State Park. More planning for these rides and two others offered on Sunday, May 5, is needed. ,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` (3 APRIL 11- k /NG'V Use of Bikeway for Amazing Revolutionary Race and Ein Plein Air: The committee agreed to recommend to the BoS approval for use of the Bikeway for the Amazing Revolutionary Race in the early afternoon of Thursday, May 9, during Revolutionary Revelry month. The event would be scavenger hunt for middle and high school students along the Bikeway from the Visitor's Center to the Munroe Center. It is being held as part of Bike Walk `n Bus Week, and a bike safety station will be part of the events. The committee also agreed to recommend that the Ein Plein Air event can again take place along the Bikeway, but with reservations; namely that artists and observers stay well off the bike path. The committee will advise that the wider sections of the Bikeway be used, where there is plenty of green space. Status of Bikeway Wayfinding and Bike Map: Toole Design Group is seeking input via a Wiki Map to determine most popular access points on the bike path. They are planning a public event closer to Spring. The front of the Bikeway features points of interest within a half mile of the Bikeway as well as trails off the Bikeway. The back of the map will include information about the Bikeway as well as map inserts of each of the three town centers. Liaison Reports: The Recreation Committee is doing strategic planning, talking to various user groups and determining how the Recreation Department can improve services to citizens. Other business: Patria reported that the bike corral and parklet will be installed for the season on Mass Ave on May 1. The plan will likely feature a raised platform with tables and chairs in the center section and bike racks on either end. The meeting was adjourned at 8:28 pm.
