Discussion: School Improvement Plan Goal # 1— Academic — Update — Literacy • MA Elementary Principals Association is a expecting a Kuwait delegation. Harrington is one of the site for this delegation (2/3 ministers of education from Kuwait will be in school one morning this month) • The process for kindergarten screening has changed. The screening will take place in spring. Orientation for new families has already been done. Parents will electronically sign up for screening appointments. Teachers and special educators will be a part of the screening. The purpose of the screening is to be better prepared to meet the behavioral, cognitive, and social needs of the children. During the month of June the students will have an opportunity to visit your classrooms • The teachers and the administrators at the school have been using the data collected in Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 1 Harrington Elementary School Site Council — Meeting Minutes 20112 -2013 Academic Year Data & Interventions. and implementing measures to increase the student performance. For example — for P grade the TWW scored increased when they were given specific writing practice (couple of times a week a prompt was given to the students and they were given 3 minutes to write about that topic) • The school has been collecting these data for 4 years and has found that TWW scores are correlated to long composition on the MCAS. • There was a suggestion to organize a Lets Chat session about writing — Parent workshop on how to reinforce good writing. 5. Discussion: • Lets chat session on PE and Wellness was School Improvement Plan: well attended.
