Minutes March 21, 2013
Members present —David Williams, Chair, Nell Walker, Lynne Wilson, Brian Kelley, Bob Pressman
Others present — Wesley Wirth, Landscape Architect, Vanessa Tropeano, Parterre Garden Services,
Myles Connors, Parterre, Wendy Rudner, Recreation
The Chairman opened the meeting at 4:05 pm.
Bathroom project— Brian Kelley updated the committee about the construction. The snow has slowed
the project, but the plumbing is done and the floor poured. The next step will be the walls. Brian has
put up a sign asking for donations but has had no response to date. He is still comfortable with his
budget and is waiting for a donation from Little league. There was discussion about the planting plans.
Parterre will review them. Brian presented the committee with a balance sheet.
Maintenance and planting plans — Vanessa introduced Myles Connors who will replace her as the direct
manager at Lincoln. He is a graduate of Conway School and specializes in invasive species and
restoration. There was a discussion of eradication of garlic mustard and other invasive plants. Vanessa
and Myles reported that March 22 was the date selected for pruning by employees of Parterre. There
will be approximately 25 employees for a period of about three hours and will be at no cost to the
committee. There was discussion of the disposal of the material from the pruning. Myles presented the
2013 calendar and budget. He said that he will need wood chips and told the group that the
rhododendrons are budded and look good. He explained that he felt that 2013 maintenance could be
done by three men for eight hours every other week. The manager would be there for about two hours.
Wesley will introduce Myles to Chris Filadoro to discuss planting of some available spruce trees. There
was discussion about additional group plantings, Wesley will look at some planting to be done this
spring.
Granite Forest —The committee looked at the design plans for the "Granite Forest" installation.
Everyone was pleased with the final design. Wesley had received an estimate from Fred Anderson
for $72,000. He is also expecting a bid from Mark McCullough. The committee agreed that this first bid
seems much too high. We will need to raise funds to complete this public art project.
Maps - Wesley showed the committee a copy of the map sign proposed for three locations — bike path
at Worthen Road, boardwalk at Worthen and Lincoln Street entry. The response was very positive with
only a couple of suggestions. As soon as the final is approved, the map signs will be made and installed.
The next meeting was scheduled for April 18, 2013, at 4:30 pm.
The meeting was adjourned at 5.40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,,
Lynne Wilson
