HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-08-02-COD-min Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for August 2, 2012 5 45pm to 7 00 pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall Members Present Victoria Buckley, Susan Cusack, Janice Cyr, Julie Miller and Francine Stieglitz Members Not Present Michael Martinetti, Leonard Morse-Fortier, Janet Perry and Jennifer Williams Staff Present Linda Vine Additional Attendees Shawn Newell and Pat Goddard Meeting Began at 6:50PM 1 Minutes for July 11, 2012 meeting were approved with minimal changes 2 Hancock United Church of Christ AAB application update from Susan Cusack about discussion with town about assessments The Town does not collect property values on religious buildings due to their tax exempt status Linda will look into this further for the CoD 3 Discussion with Pat Goddard and Shawn Newell of the Commission's prioritization of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title II items from the consultant's report Items discussed included how to group together small items and who might be able to do the minor repairs a Schools are considered the most important- key items are getting in and out of buildings, parking, use of space and bathrooms b Sean proposed that all items under $1000 could be completed over an 18 month time frame with reviews at 6 month intervals Work orders would be used to assign and track the work needed c Elevator at Clark school discussion—the Chair of Special Education Committee and many parents feel it that is unsafe, located in the wrong place and does not meet the needs of the children that are there now CoD will request a study to look at the options for fixing the existing elevator or relocating it d The ramps at Clark school (disintegrating) and to the field house at LHS need to be repaired or redone Also needed are parking restriping and signage for accessible parking and bathrooms e Pat suggested that the CoD remove the small items (under $1,000) from the list and focus only on large items and prioritize them over a five year period Susan Cusack, Len Morse-Fortier and Pat Goddard will meet to review the larger items, come up with dollars associated, and prioritize them over a five year period A meeting was scheduled for August 27th at 1 00 in DPW building 201 Bedford St Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for August 2, 2012 5 45pm to 7 00 pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall 4 Short review of how to be involved with the Lexington 300 plans— September 22nd Francine will attend the next meeting and discuss handicapped parking for events planned 5 Additional new business and update on new projects- nothing new CoD wants and needs to be involved sooner in the design phase of new construction for public buildings For example, the Estabrook school building design is already far along in the process and CoD wants to promote and support universal design as a commitment and value Meeting Adjourned at: 7:15 PM Next Meeting: September 6, 2012 Meeting Minutes Submitted by Janice Cyr, Commission Member
