HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-02-02-COD-minCommission on Disability February 2, 2012 Meeting Minutes 5: 45pm to 7: 00 pm Stone Room - Cary Hall Members Present: Victoria Buckley, Susan Cusack, Janice Cyr, Michael Martinetti, Leonard Morse - Fortier, Francine Stieglitz, and Jennifer Williams. Staff. Linda Vine Additional Attendees: Susan Kenyon from "Lex Protects Our Neighborhoods" Meeting began at: 5:47 pm 1. Minutes for the January 5, 2012 meeting were approved. 2. Status of complaint at medical building at 57 Bedford Street — we needed someone to get names and room numbers of all the tenants. o Jen got the names and office numbers of all the tenants. o Discussion of what to do now. Suggestion surfaced to have Jen and Michael to attempt to contact landlord to schedule a meeting to discuss this issue. 3. Review of names of three community people knowledgeable about disability issues for next phase of Shriver grant. This was for research purposes; these people should not be told about details discussed by group. o Three people are on the list and will be confirmed. 4. Discussion of Hastings Park Inn — handicap parking issues. Original plan showed handicap area would be used for snow storage. Plan was revised to not use the handicap area for snow. Current plans do not show handicapped parking for the proposed conference center. CoD recommends an additional handicapped parking spot for the conference center to be in compliance with ADA regulations. o Susan Kenyon reviewed the plans for the Inn. She is representing the "Lex Protects Our Neighborhoods ", a privately funded neighborhood group opposed to scale and scope of the plans. There are 70 -90 people in the group — much of the group would not oppose the Dana Home original footprint. (DH was a 14 room Nursing home previously) o The group is opposed to 22 room inn, 8 rooms in house next door, 56 seat restaurant and 36 seat lounge. Some members are opposed to a commercial use for the area. It will be the first time a residentially zoned area would be rezoned for commercial use. As a Bed and Breakfast, it would only have three rooms. o A traffic study will be conducted from funds raised by the group and will be available soon. Lexington will lose about $80K in revenue. Money has been put in the 2013 budget. Victoria wrote a letter to send to the MBTA and will send it along. 6. Additional new business and update on new projects o Panera Restaurant is asking for a variance for a patio and with a fence with a step. o Victoria will write to ABB that the variance should not be granted due to other options being available. Le. they could ramp the area or exit at other end of the patio, or go back inside to exit.
