HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-06-07-COD-min Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for June 7, 2012 5 30 pm to 7 00 pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall Members Present Victoria Buckley, Susan Cusack, Janice Cyr, Julie Miller, Leonard Morse-Fortier, Janet Perry, and Francine Stieglitz Members Not Present Jennifer Williams Staff Present Linda Vine Additional Attendees Candy McLaughlin, Sean Newell Meeting Began at 5:30pm Minutes for the May 9, 2012 meeting were approved unanimously This entire meeting was dedicated to reviewing and prioritizing the "Americans with Disabilities Act, Title 11 Self-Evaluation document Notes were taken by Candy McLaughlin and are as follows Meeting- Commission on Disability Review and prioritization of The Americans with Disabilities Act, Title 11 Transition Plan June 7, 2012 The Commission on Disabilities reviewed "The Americans with Disabilities Act, Title 11 Self-Evaluation and recommend the following prioritization The public buildings were prioritized in order of importance by the commission and the most significant items in need of correction were included under each facility The Commission emphasized the need to follow the developmental learning path at the schools which includes the following pathways Harington /Hastings —early childhood Clarke/Diamond Lexington High School (LABB) The Commission also said that in general they would like to recommend that upgrades be made based upon the following triage method 1 Parking (van loading and unloading areas) 2 Entrance Ways 3 Bathrooms 4 Counter heights & wheelchair accessible 5 Circulation/ egress pathways 6 Signage Cary Memorial Library Signage items 3, 9, 10, 11 Cary Memorial Building hearing/ acoustics included in master plan Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for June 7, 2012 5 30 pm to 7 00 pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall Fiske School bathroom signage Police Station Sidewalk School Administration Bldg provide program accommodation accessible parking ramp Public Service Bldg minor differentials Visitor Center elevator counter heights program accommodation— move meeting to downstairs Department of Human Services review capital plan to see that it incorporates data from the study Fire Station review fire study fire prevention function relocate provide customer accommodation Bridge, Bowmen, Estabrook- rehab scheduled Clarke Middle School elevator items 8 — 10 counter in main office # 15 parking 19 —20 main ramp not identified in study but does need extensive maintenance Lexington High School bathrooms—urinals, grab bars and items 7, 10, 11, 12, 19, 36 —LABB Counter#29 Auditorium handrails #48 —stairs to stage #49 — 50 ramp appears steep parking #53 — 57 language build ramp to courtyard needs railings pipes under sink not insulated— can this work be performed by maintenance? elevator not part of report or power doors Diamond Middle School Parking spaces # 1 access in bathrooms # 3, 8 ramp slope to fields and no landing items # 15, 16, 17, 18 Commission on Disability Meeting Minutes for June 7, 2012 5 30 pm to 7 00 pm Parker Room, G-1, Lexington Town Hall Harrington uneven sidewalks surface # 13 - 16 signage in early childhood center storing of materials in pathways or in handicapped bathroom Hastings urinal low#3 outside ramp steep # 11, 12, and 33 Stair rails tread depth# 9, 10 Signage for accessible bathrooms #29, 32 ramp to playground #34, 35 regrade rather than handrails? —no handrails to stage#36 auto flush#28 modular classrooms In summation the Commission believes the smaller, low cost items should be reviewed by the Public Facilities Department and determinations made as to the best way to take care of these items, for example lowering of mirrors, door hooks Meeting Adjourned at 7 15 PM Next Meeting: July 11, 2012 Meeting Minutes Submitted by: Janice Cyr, Commission Member, notes taken by Candy McLaughlin
